Default multiple computer question

hey guys

i have prime95 up and running and all good on my desktop pc...and i decided to download it onto my laptop. i have a question about this. all i did was download the software from the site then put my username and password into the user information window. is that all i have to do for it to recognize that both computers are being used by the same account? thanks for any info!

If you use the same user id and password on both computers, that's all you need for both to be recognized as the same account.

It was nearly instant for me. Make sure you have all the user information correct on you second machine.

It should happen right away...

You should use the same user ID and password on both computers, but pick different computer IDs. Your individual account report should list all the exponents that have been assigned to your account (for all computers).

Look in your worktodo.ini file on both computers and see if the exponents match what's in your individual account report. Also check your prime.ini file on both computers to make sure that the user ID is actually the same on both (perhaps they're different due to a typo?).

Generally the worktodo.ini and prime.ini files should be someplace like C:\Program Files\Prime95\ but you may have installed them elsewhere.

If you have a good internet connection, try downloading status.txt from PrimeNet, and search for your two exponents. Then check the last two columns to see what PrimeNet thinks are your userids and computer names for the two exponents. If you don't have a good internet connection, post the two exponents here, and I will find them for you.

You can force an update from the client. From the Advance Menu (pw = 9876) select Manual Communication and tick Contact PrimeNet server now and Send new expected completion dates to the server, before you press OK.

Also make sure that both your client have different Computer ID (under End User Information)

ok, i did that on my desktop...then i did it on my laptop and when the info was sent on the laptop i got an Error 17: Exponent not assigned to this computer. can this be why its not working? it says an exponent was not assigned, yet it is currently double checking M9756913...my desktop is currently double checking M10831231. thanks for the help everyone

How did you get your hands on M9756913? It seems from status.txt that it was already assigned to someone else. Status.txt also shows M10831231 happily assigned to you. So, to fix the laptop, look in worktodo.ini in the folder that contains the program. If it has something that looks like DoubleCheck=9756913,#,# then quit the program and delete the line. Then restart the program, and it should get a new exponent for you. Unfortunately, it seems you will loose the half days work you did on the laptop. Other than that, your problem should get fixed.
