As for what size range to sieve on one high-speed 64-bit quad: I suggest sieving a P=250G range on each core for a total of P=1000G (1T). It is taking my 64-bit 2.4 Ghz Intel's ~15-16 days and that is a reasonable length for that effort. After that is done, if you wish, then you can reserve another similar-size range. As for what P-ranges to sieve, it's a bit of an unusual situation: As shown in the thread above, the first available ranges that would be available for 4 cores are: 4250G-4500G 4750G-5000G 5250G-5500G 5750G-6000G The reason for the non-contiguous P-ranges is that Ian found that his slower AMD was going to take 74 days to do P=500G per core. At the same time that I asked you if you could put a quad on the effort, I asked him to halve his reservation on each core. Since both of you agreed, we have the above non-contiguous ranges that need to be filled in. If you aren't too fond of the non-contiguous ranges, it's no big deal. I can start on the above by ~Feb. 26th. As you'll be able to see by the 1st post in that drive, P=6250G is the 1st unreserved contiguous range that you can start with. Yes, all that I need is the factors.txt file. Thanks for offering to help sieve and messing with upgrading a machine or 2 to a 64-bit O.S. I'm thinking that we'll need to go to P=15000G (15T) before we can break off the n=500K-600K range, which will then keep our 8th drive moving along. Gary |

I saw that Brian found a couple of nice primes for n>600K on his work here. Excellent!

I check the top-5000 page status 2-3 times a day.
Keeping up with what other projects/individuals are doing helps in the direction of this project at times. For example, when I saw that PrimeGrid was searching all k<1200 (since increased to some higher k) on the Proth side to n=600K, I remembered that there were a huge # of holes on the Riesel side for k=1003-2000/n=50K-500K, hence I started the sieving effort that is now the 8th/9th drives. Those 2 drives have been our most successful to date.
