I don't know how it happened. There's a possibility I was messing around with assignment and worktodo.txt, but exactly what I may have done I couldn't tell you... I only noticed it by chance in my results more than a month after it happened (and my prime.log only goes back about 10 days). I only mention it here because I think that PrimeNet should have some sanity checks in place to prevent people from submitting weird results like that, whether by chance, bug, or malicious intent.

See attachment. Set Prime95 to allow up to 2400MB. Used memory before starting was 1.22GB, the peak cutoff point was 3.05GB for both failed attempts. After this I reset the settings to use 1800MB, Prime95 elected to use 1765MB which put the system memory usage (according to Task Manager) at 3.09GB and it's running just fine.

Aha! So I'm not crazy!
Doesn't help you, but I feel less dumb now
This sounds like there is a 32 bit signed integer comparison on the size somewhere since more than 2gb becomes negative on 32 bits. In malloc heap memory manager?

I suspect not, but nevertheless George seems to have fixed whatever the problem was 2 subversions ago already (was broken in v25.7, is working fine in v25.8 and v25.9), so I wouldn't worry about it too much

Eh? There's a 25.9 version out? I don't recall seeing it anywhere.

It's here and there for those who care to look for it... I've been running it for nearly 10 days already
As always, be wary of new versions before George blesses them.
