The cryptic explanation in MSVC compiler's help:

WSAEADDRNOTAVAIL - The remote address is not a valid address (such as ADDR_ANY).

Try adding this line to primenet.ini:

EntropiaIP=64.66.6.250

Can you post the full transcript of a failed connect?

Will try that the next time I go down there, may not be for a few days.

I had this problem a year or so ago, and after several months of frustration, I discovered that a utillity I had installed (and long since un-installed) had created a hosts.txt file which contained an old IP address for entropia. I am familiar with the hosts file in Unix, but I didn't know before this that windows could also use one. The file was either in the root or windows directory. It's probably not the problem, but it's worth checking.

Just a note on HOSTS files and Windows: it should be just HOSTS not HOSTS.TXT. This is worth noting if using a text editor like Notepad to edit it, to avoid the habit it has of adding the .TXT extension. Also avoid the HOSTS.SAM file, which is just a sample file with examples in it.

In Windows 98 the HOSTS file lives in the C:\WINDOWS\ directory. Just look for HOSTS on the C: drive.

Hadn't thought of that. But that isn't the problem. The HOSTS file doesn't even exist.

Adding the EntropiaIP line didn't help. Ran it from the Comcrap on the C2G (those 2 PCs are networked together) it sent in the exponents and got the new ones, but now of course the server thinks the K6-2 is a C2G. Not that that's a big problem, I'm going to switch the K6-2 packets over to a new Athlon XP 2500+ soon (hopefully), maybe Wednesday.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on the board!
