Am I the only one getting submitresults() failed repeatedly? I'm just set to use initial.server. Restarting doesn't help. I'm going to bed now; for right now I'm running another client at lower priority to use my CPU, but I wanted to spend a day or two on nfsnet :(.
Thanks! Nathan EDIT: The GUI is saying I'm in the LoneStar pool. Also, I'm not blacklisted - I know what a blacklist message looks like (idle assignments), and this isn't it (failed submits here). Last fiddled with by pakaran on 2003-11-24 at 06:19 |

The LoneStar pool is run by Richard Wackerbarth and I can't debug that server in depth but I suspect the server is probably OK, not least because one of my clients is happily talking to the same server (though admittedly not the same pool). I suggest you check that your network connectivity is working properly. The server you are trying to contact will be listed in projects/pool/details.txt and will be something like public.texas.server.nfsnet.org (check this!). If you can't resolve the name (use a tool like nslookup, dig or host depending on what's available on your OS), that's enough to stop things working and you need to check your DNS server is working properly. If you can resolve the name, try traceroute (or tracert on Windows machines) to see how far your packets get. Finally, if you are going through a proxy server, it's quite possible that machine was playing up. Unfortunately, if any of the infrastructure servers (DNS, proxy, ISP routers) are broken there's not much I can do and you will have to talk to your tech support contacts. Good luck. Paul P.S. Sam Spade (look it up on Google) is an amazingly useful tool for debugging network problems. |

Ok thanks. It resolved itself while I was asleep.

Where are you located?
Unfortunately my servers are located at the end of an ADSL connection that seems to have connectivity problems all too frequently. They usually run OK, but the quality seems to come and go. For a while, I couldn't stay connected for half a day. Then I ran three weeks without logging any failures. Now, the problems seem to be returning. :( The other option is to send you to Paul's server in England (pool MSRC). Most of the time he has a better connection. That is why we have most of the clients reporting there. (ADV: If you have a well connected server that could participate ... ) I like to keep a few of the clients reporting here because I use them to test things and fill in the gaps caused by problems. (It's MUCH easier for me to manipulate the local work queues). Richard PS: Thanks for reporting enough details (pool, etc.) that we were not left guessing. |
