Newbie Linux Q

Feel free to bash me for being such a newbie with Linux, but...

I have a machine running a very old version of Linux, Slackware 3.6 - that I wish to use to ONLY do Prime. I've unpacked, set it up, got an exponent, etc... what I wish to know is, how do you force mprime to output to the screen ? I read somewhere that screen output under mprime is disabled by default.
If it's not, I guess I'm in trouble - the machine's just sitting there, (appearing to be) doing nothing. I can still Ctrl-C to exit it.

I heard by giving mprime -d option, it will spit out a line after some iterations which you can define.

What I want to say is that outputing is expensive and you will soon be bored by seeing same messages flying by millions of times. I always use -B which means to do the job quietly.

There are plenty of ways to find out your machine is busy. top, uptime being 2 of them. You can also watch the temp files that by default, written every 30 minutes.

With a mprime running in the background, you can still start mprime with a -m option. Use 4 to check finish dates and 12 to force a contact to the server.
