Has anyone else noticed how quickly they have become the second biggest weekly contributor currently miles ahead of TPR's rate and right at the heels of CurtisC with 1726.810 credits in only 7 days; 3 times what I have been able to accumulate in over 6 years

Team_Italia had a similar growth, but then there had been a merge...

I work for a company with 6,000 Intel machines; virtually all at least P4-3Ghz.
Sadly, unless you can get me appointed CEO it won't happen. About 5 years ago we had a guest speaker from IBM talking about their support for and participation in the Genome project, encouraging others to contribute their spare cycles. A co-worker asked if our company would consider joining and was turned down with the reason: that's not the business we are in and can't commit resources for administer it. Now, we all know that the search for Mersenne Primes is infinitely more crucial to human-kind than Gene research but not everyone is as enlightened. What makes matters worse is that we are on a "Green" compaign to reduce Green House Gas Emissions. A prime (oops, no pun intended) way is by reducing power consumption.

And a few years ago Ahmerali appeared out of nowhere too.

I think Ahmerali uses his company's computers to crunch for GIMPS. On the Top Producers page, his name links to what appears to be a business website. Also, some time ago, he stated that he had several hundred computers runnig GIMPS. I don't think a normal person would have access to so much computing power.

I don't think that you know how to make an effective business case to raise in front of management. I've found GIMPS to be rather easy sale, considering how difficult it is to install, maintain and monitor.

Please read my post in the other thread: http://mersenneforum.org/showpost.ph...&postcount=586

I think the more difficult part is to convince GIMPS people to modify the client to support the features required by an enterprise. And that is the limitation. Perhaps GIMPS masters are not really interested in taking that road because of the previous run-ins with the overly enthusiastic system administrators and their managers.

I realize it is just a snapshot BUT for at least one moment in time linded has surpassed curtisc in weekly output.

1 curtisc 243762.000 1914.000 8906.000 23708.000 52332 574932.50
35 linded 8271.800 +7 +18 +79 2043.250 3467.250 5799.000 852 22991.32

and for the last 3 or 4 years I have been watching TPR no one else has even been much over 500 per week.

It's probably easier to convince an educational institution to join a DC project than to convince a company to do so. Companies are about making money, but universities are about enhancing knowledge.

Many of the top producers are university teams:

curtisc (#1) - University of Central Missouri
ekugimps (#11) - Eastern Kentucky University [may include outsiders]
ganser (#12) - Millersville University
TempleU-CAS (#17) - Temple University
WileECoyote (#24) - CSU Stanislaus [may include outsiders]
dstucki (#29) - Otterbein College [possibly inactive]
TempleU-CLA (#30) - Temple University
linded (#35) - Northeastern State University
UclaMath (#51) - UCLA
ValenciaCC (#60) - Valencia Community College

The only company accounts I know of are ahmerali (Surelink Business Solutions) and lozcs (Alison Keys Creative).
