800M to 999M to 61bits

I'll take that range to get all of them to at least 61bits. Is anyone already working on that range?
I will only report factors to keep the server load small.

You should check http://v5www.mersenne.org/ regularly yourself to see what is already assigned, although I can only see monst's & ckdo's assignments at the moment.

Won't that mean 95% of your work will have to be repeated by someone else?? And they won't get the satisfaction of finding factors in the 59-61 bit range.

I take it you aren't assigning work through the server. But then you'll need to also watch that the server doesn't start assigning work in this range itself.

Basically what I'm clumsily trying to say is, consider reserving your work through the server. But not all at once - ~5,000,000 exponents at once just might be a hit on the server.

How can I get the V5 server to assign me work in a desired range like that? Say I wanted to work in the 320M-350M range, how can I get that assigned to me?

how do i exactly assign them? I use my own application for factoring, so i dont have any Wc2-codes to submit

Is it as fast as Mfactor or Factor5.

Factor5 is pretty quick.

If you have your v25.x client - prime95 or mprime - set to use primenet v5, it will try to register any not-yet-registered worktodo lines with the server. You can just add them to worktodo.txt (close the client, change worktodo.txt, restart client).

There's now a nice alternative: make a file worktodo.add and the client will try to register its contents & add them to worktodo.txt. It doesn't start digesting the .add file right away, and it can take a while to do it. (Or that might be the slowish machine I've tried this on.) But it works. So far the most I've added in one file is ~2500 lines.

Usual caveats apply - the v25.x clients & v5 server are still officially in test phase, so all this is unofficial and the right way might be totally different eg when proper procedures are made. Obviously registering assignments makes some server traffic in either alternative, but not many people are using v5 yet.

I haven't actually added something that's already assigned to someone else, but I hope the server would reject it.
