Three verifications? But only one (by Duell and Giltrap) has been completed for each so far. (Or am I forgetting something?)

No, I was part of the Giltrap/Duell Sparc-based effort - they ran my Mlucas code on a Sun server, there's been a huge amount of build-tweaking and compiler-issue-workaround-ing going on between us behind the scenes.

On the bright side, this does give more time for sleuthing...
Here's an idea: Were any of the residues, as reported by cleared.txt, in the list: Code:

23th of August: nearly 86% done.
6th of september: nearly 55% done. Wait for Saturday and Sunday... About Jeff's verification, seems he's going faster than at the beginning ! Yes, 3 verifications is better than 2. ![]() I've posted several interesting measures of scalability on several threads, and I think I will have interesting data about performance and scalability of Mlucas, Glucas and Prime95 on the same 8x Xéon machine, plus maybe a Néhalem. It would be nice and useful to write a real paper... but not sure I'll have time. Tony |

(I don't know what you mean by "opposite side of my trade".) But I did hope that my absurd post on inflation, followed by the post on the cool use for Mersenne primes, would get people talking about something other than Dr. Silverman's pedagogical style. Maybe a larger distraction is in order... |

I'm referring to the trading on the futures markets, including currency futures. The long/short trades there have to balance exactly.
This is a standard capitalistic argument against education. If everybody was smart and there were no stupid people then there wouldn't be anyone to take the "stupid" side of the trade from the "smart" people. Using BLS numbers for inflation is one of the standard obfuscation strategies in the financial salesmanship. Picking "since WW2" time period is an example of "survivorship bias." For a more relevant financial reference please try looking up "continental dollar." I'm glad to hear that you didn't get offended by my comment. I continue to regret my original post that attempted to make a joke. I just contributed to increasing the noise level on this board. |
