I know ->.<- that much about anything, but I can still sieve for a couple more months. What non-BOINC sieving is there to be done?

Sheep,
There is basically everything from ~1350T to 1500T which is availble through matt's sieve site. It's all combined ranges. If there is a demand for it we can always reserve another range for non-bionic sieve. When you say a couple months? Is that's what left of your current reservation or are you saying that your going else where, loosing machines etc.??? |

Okay, I understand now. :) That's where I'm getting my ranges now (I saw non-BOINC and had a brain-short).
Yes, I'm going to be losing the farms. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Third goal for 2008 reached. Sloth has found a second prime. When validated it will enter the list of largest primes as the 12th largest known prime. His previous prime will drop from 13th to 14th. Thanks to everyone for making this possible. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

WOW, Looks like all of our goals have been reached!!!
Wondering if new ones should be set? Also note there were some other pretty important accomplishments in the last while. Totally combining the SoB and PSP sieve efforts. Implementing the Bionic plat form. Starting the doublecheck server and doing quite a bit of work there. If new goals are set I think they should be worthy ones not simply hey we need new goals with higher numbers b/c the old ones were reached. etc... Also they should have merit and ranked. If I were to propose one I would suggest something like. 1. Find a top 10 prime. 2. Bring one secondpass k upto firstpass level. Then why if you propose. 1. The reason is obvious to keep PSP a recognised project, a top 10 would help. For # 2. This would help establish an error rate for all the k/n pair tested todate. Lars has been doing this but we are not quite at firstpass level. Pushing one k to firstpass gives a cross section of the whole project, not a 1-3 year delayed error rate but a true error rate for whats currently going on. |

I like the second proposed goal, but not the first. Here's why -
I think our goals should be things that we can actually effect and possibly be given a time frame; ie, testing all k's out to 5 or 6 million by years end or sieving out to ____T by the same point. Finding a top 10 prime is just going to happen, eventually, as we continue to crunch. Something to notice and celebrate, sure, but not really a 'goal' so much as inevitable, unless all of our ks get primed in the next few weeks, which I think would be better than a top 10 prime |
