Overdue Prime Rally - Page 4

Yes, I am off prime search for a while. After reaching my goal on another DC project I will move my cores to here. That 164 peak is very funny...I added my cores the day before but I never had the chance to have all my cores running stable and for a long period of time.

I thought I'd put in a plug for a "No Prime Left Behind" rally here that is starting at 2 PM CDT (7 PM GMT) today in about 15 mins.

Masser, if you think I shouldn't plug the rally here, feel free to delete this.

I think I had mentioned that I might throw a core or two at the SR5 effort a little while back for a while. After losing access to multiple work machines right around that time, I bought 6 new quads right before leaving on a 10-day business trip and got 5 of them doing prime searching before I left. They shipped the wrong motherboard on one of them. A replacement should ship next Tuesday and I'll be done installing it by next Weds.

What I thought I'd do is put a core (or possibly 2 depending on work load) of that final quad on the SR5 effort for 1-2 weeks after I get it built mid-next week.

I'll let you know when I'm ready to start on it and you can let me know which server you think is higher priority.

That sounds great. Our Riesel server will be higher priority for at least a few more months.

Feel free to post attention-getters in our forum for the CRUS and NPLB rallies. I have no problem with that as long as I can return the favor and post rally announcements on those forums.

I am sorry I missed out on the rally this past weekend - busy with real life issues. Hopefully I can put a machine or two to work on the next rally.

Post those announcements anytime you want in NPLB or CRUS.

My final quad is built and I'm catching up on several efforts that fell behind now. I'll put a core on Riesel 5 before I leave on a week-long trip this Saturday.

NPLB is planning another rally for the Memorial Day weekend. We might even make it a 48-hour one...still to be determined. After that, perhaps one per month or so. As one of our new searchers stated in a thread, if we do them too often, the novelty wares off and they aren't as fun for people.

We have another rally planned at NPLB for this weekend. It will be a 48-hour rally from 7 PM GMT Friday to 7 PM GMT Sunday.

In the mean time, I've put a high-speed core on Riesel base 5 here. I'll keep it there for at least 10 days with a break of ~2 days for the rally.

Sounds like a good idea to me, as long as you steer clear of the weekend of the 21st--we're going to be having a rally at NPLB that weekend.

BTW, as Gary has mentioned before, you are more than welcome to announce your rally in the NPLB/CRUS forums if you'd like.

(In fact it would be especially appropriate in the Conjectures 'R Us forum, as that project is essentially doing the same thing as yours, just for other bases. Additionally, your project will, in the long run, save CRUS a lot of work on Sierpinski/Riesel base 25, which can utilize a lot of base 5 primes.)
