That's essentially what I'm saying--but why not simply use the LLRnet client's existing code to handle all the getting/receiving of k/n pairs, and provide a nice GUI too? The only difference is that the code for doing a PRP test would be replaced with code that invokes phrot with the -q option, as you mentioned, reads the result, and returns the result to the LLRnet client in the same format it currently does.

i'm a old school man ...

never mix apps ... always write everything from scratch ...

i would prefer a universal GUI interface ...

with choice like this :

1. phrot or llr (which in fact will invoque the command line from one or the other app)
2. server address and port
3. cache size (or best: cache time based on 2 (or 3-4-5) last test timings)

that's the 3 only thing we need as choice in the GUI

it will give us a graphical interface, the ease of use of llrnet, the possibility to add other external application, the possibility to upgrade one component without touching the others ...

in fact ther will be 3 component:

the GUI
the llr CLI (3.7.1 actually) (for base 2)
the phrot CLI

Ah, I see what you mean now. Yeah, that would be nice--though it would probably be nice to have the option of running it from the command line, too. Maybe two versions could be made?

i'm not a programmer ... i'm more like a client ...

i say what i want and i'm waiting for people to give me the app that i need ...

personnaly, i don't care of the app being CLI or GUI or anything else ... i'm used to both of them ... (in fact people like GUI because it's more intuitive and more user friendly ... but other people like CLI because they can hide it and spare some cpu milliseconds)

Hey, I've got an idea of what to do to get the programming part done: advertise in the Programming forum saying that we need a programmer to write this program, and that he will be paid in a negotiable amount of crunching time or units. Anyone like this idea?

Unfortunately, I have not had the time to participate any more in SR5 since the 24 hours on one core that I did near the beginning of the rally. (I have been very busy of late with some high-priority work from NPLB that I need to get done before I go on vacation tomorrow.) However, rest assured I do hope to participate some more in the SR5 project in the near future.

As for Carlos, last I heard, he was taking a hiatus from prime searching in general to participate in other types of DC projects. I don't know what his specific plans are, though.
