After 584 days without any news it happened.
We have a new prime reported and running verification on primepages. So it is not official yet but it passed our internal verification without any problems. on the 5th of april one hour after midnight the server reported that 265711*2^4858008+1 is prime and it is found by Sloth It is 1462412 Digits in size. So lets keep our fingers crossed that it also passes the official verification. The sieve files and manual reservation files have allready been updated. Let the party begin. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() By the way there were several small chunks of information visible all the time that there was something going on in the background but nobody found them. ![]() Here is the link on the progress of verification: http://primes.utm.edu/primes/page.php?id=84603 Last fiddled with by ltd on 2008-04-07 at 16:39 |

Nice one!
Glad to see you guys found a prime after such a long dry spell. And it should come into the top-5000 as the 13th largest prime known as soon as it passes official verification!

One more addition to my original post.
I forgot to thank everybody for staying with us during the long dry. So here my deepest thanks for staying with the project for such a long time to all our contributors. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was hoping that my push on moving up the stats in the project would get more people involved and lead to finding a prime. Never thought I would be the one finding the prime.
Maybe with all the talk in various forums about the new prime more people will check out the project and get involved. Its great that we finally found another one. Hopefully the next one is a LOT quicker. S. and on a personal note... YES!!!!!!!! after all these years running different projects I finally got one!!!! |

Big grats to Sloth and to the entire PSP crunchers
![]() BTW, Was this found on PrimeGrid or LLRNet? EDIT:- I don't think it is really a good idea for the Prime Pages to do the verification -- it is going to take ages! Could someone email Prof Caldwell regarding this? Last fiddled with by axn on 2008-04-07 at 23:58 |
