From Sept-06 to Feb-08 the LL Leading edge has changed from 35M to 41M - about 3 months per million - 4M per year. Assuming a linear trend (just a SWAG) it will take (610 - 41) / 4 = 142 years.

Considering as of today my life is exactly half over (I plan to live to 100) I don't think I will see it happen.
There are people who believe, quite seriously and based on arguments which aren't entirely discountable, that the first person to die at age 1000 or more is not only already alive but is likely to have been born before you.

Google "human lifespan 1000 years" (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...pan+1000+years) but ignore that first hit.

The Technological Singularity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity) may wipe that SWAG off your face. :-)

You casually discuss multimillion-digit numbers, but you quibble over a three-digit number being a "few"?

Point made .... besides I couldn't stand the idea of us "quibbling" for 1,000 years.

Prime95: It is probably best to just let the v5 server get to these unfactored ranges.
Looks like the V5 Server is going hard in this range (mostly DiamondDave) ... it has already advanced to 635M.

i'd like to perform some trial factoring on these numbers using the v5 server, however whenever I set my client and the web preferences to do trial factoring i get assignments in the 40M range factoring upto 2^69. Is there something i'm doing wrong ?

is this in the client or in the web interface? because in the web interface i dont see that option in the 'default work type' selection screen. the trial factoring specific options i see are "TF - trial factoring" and "TF-LMH - trial factoring (LMH)"

In the client i also dont see that option. Just regular trial factoring. im using Mersenne Prime Test Program, Version 25.6.2

What am i missing here? Thanks.

"TF-LMH - trial factoring (LMH)" where LMH stands for Lone Mersenne Hunters is the same as "trial factoring to low limits".
