Hi all,
We have recently completed 13000 tests without a prime on the Riesel Base 5 LLRNET queue. A very reliable heuristic predicts that at the current sieve and testing levels, we should be finding a prime every 6700 tests. I have also noted that some of our former contributors (tnerual, Free-DC Mercenaries and others) are contributing to CRUS and NPLB. I was curious if we could get some extra attention on our Riesel Base 5 LLRNET queue. Maybe we could find a couple primes in the next couple of days with a concerted effort. Any takers? masser |

Ah, I see somebody's noticed the huge success of the little "rallies" that we've been having at NPLB.
Well, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (though, to be fair, the idea originally came from the 24- and 48-hour rallies that Carlos spearheaded here at SR5).I think I can spare one core of my primary machine (Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz) for 24 hours on the Riesel queue. Any others?

Another thing I was just thinking about: considering that we've hit such a big dry spot, I can't help but wonder whether we missed a prime due to an unstable machine. Of course, it could just be a big dry spot, but then again, it might not be a half-bad idea to push the doublecheck level up a little higher.
Thoughts, anyone?

I am not too worried about this dry spot. The expectation is approximately one prime every 6700 tests. I start worrying that something has gone wrong at 5*expectation, or in this case, 33500 tests without a prime. We are still pretty far from that threshold, but if you want to do 20000 tests, knock yourself out.
However, if you do that many tests, I bet you will find a prime...

As soon as I finish a sieve range I'll help you for a week under Free-DC Mercenaries name.

HEY!! No stealing my searchers back that I stole from you in the first place!!
![]() ![]() My answer to this is, it's time to have an LLRnet rally at NPLB! We had them every 2 weeks 3 straight times in Feb. and early March but had to stop them for a little while to allow Karsten to catch his breath.Seriously, what weekend are you planning one? We'd certainly want to coordinate and make sure we don't do them the same weekend. I'd like to suggest one at NPLB in 2 weeks; the weekend of April 18th. Gary |

(I'd rather have my machine doing manual work while I'm away, rather than LLRnet, in case the internet goes down, since I won't be there to notice if it does.)The weekends of the 11th and 25th would work fine for me, however. ![]() Anon

masser, what's the jobMaxTime for the llrnet server k/n pairs? I'm asking because my internet at work is frequently down, we moved to a new building and things aren't steady, and so I would like to increase the cache size of my work machine to 50 or even more.
Added one slow machine... |

As long as it hasn't changed (I don't think it has), the max time for a job is 10 days.

Masser,
When are you thinking you'll do your rally? With Anon out the w/e of the 18th, I'd maybe like to go for one at NPLB the w/e of the 25th since he generally helps with a lot of administrative stuff there. I haven't previously searched here but I'll throw a couple of cores at a rally just for grins. How long are the testing times for the lower n-range that the rally would be processing, say, for a 3.2 Ghz P4? Gary |
