Are you aware that new versions of files like nofactor.zip have not been posted since February 4? This is _not_ because of any failure in manual test results check-in; it's a reporting absence.
I meant to say that it hadn't shown up in my individual account report, which is automatic (and thus, results submitted through the manual checkin page should should be reflected in the account report immediately).

There may have been short periods of time when that was true, but it's not generally so. AFAIK the last time it was down for a long time was well over a year ago, maybe two or three years ago.

I'm referring to times when mersenne.org was up, but manual check-in was down. Might George have been referring to a general server outage, rather than a manual-results-only failure?

I'm trying to save George a bit of work by encouraging folks to use the manual results check-in.
Here's an exact quote from the email George sent me mentioning that the manual check-in page was broken:

If you can't get the automatic method working, try getting exponents
using http://mersenne.org/range2.htm and emailing results.
Maybe the manual check-in page is working again now, I don't know. I haven't used it since the time when I had emailed George about it.

Ah ... at that time George and you were discussing reservation and clearing of assignments, not the reporting of results, which is what I've been discussing here.

I bet George's "The manual pages don't really work" was referring only to assignment reservation and clearing functions on that page, not to the manual test results check-in function. It's quite possible for one function to work even though others on the same page don't work. I stand by my recommendations about manual test result check-in.

No, we were talking about reporting of results. My problem at the time was that I had tried reporting some TF results via the manual check-in page (there were no new factors involved, so no cleared exponents), and yet those exponents still showed up as an active factoring assignment on my account report.

Let's hope that works better than last time.
... ... ...
http://v5www.mersenne.org/report_ll/?exp_lo=33600000&exp_hi=33605000 lists 33600571, 33601693, 33602077, 33602111 and 33602141. I'd call that "checked in".
If it worked for Carsten, I don't see any reason that it wouldn't work for me.

Guys, I never wanted to start this agitation. I simply asked. This time I did exactly what I wrote above (and what you suggested) -- I m-c-in'ed the two exponents and will not email them and we'll see when they will show up. There's no problem, they are not prime anyway. Two weeks make no difference to me.

Checking results in with the manual pages has worked for me, most recently some TF results about a week ago, and before that the LL results for two exponents from this thread back in December.

The LL results did not show up in any primenet reports (v4 back then), just the next update of the gimps files. (As it says on the check-in part of the manual page, GIMPS test results are credited for research when submitted manually, but are not credited by Internet PrimeNet Server.) I understood George processed the results from the manual pages for the gimps database, and that it was simpler for him than collating results from emails. I guess it did the batching up for him.

The recent results showed up in the v5 primenet reports.

Anonymous,

Oh, okay.

I had completely forgotten what markr points out:

So, apparently, manual results check-in will not necessarily show up on any report from V4 PrimeNet, but at least right now are making their way, perhaps after some days delay, into V5 PrimeNet reports.

Does this satisfactorily explain everyone's discrepant experiences with regard to the manual page -- that we can't determine whether manual check-ins are successfully recorded or not by looking only at V4 reports?

I mailed the result to George later like Henk suggested to me via PM. As far as I'm concerned I have no proof of the web form working. Or not working, for that matter.

Thumbs up

O Ye of little faith! The LLama is right! http://www.mersenne.org/ips/manualtests.html#checkins is very much alive. It does work with a big delay (but two weeks is probably the worst case) - today many checkins (form V4 as well as submitted manually and not emailed) showed up. And that's only three or four days' delay.

http://v5www.mersenne.org/report_ll/...B1=Get+LL+data
The other three numbers I run on another comp - their ETA is April 5.

I rewrote the program to create the list of exponents that have been abandoned based on the new server output. I have to query the server about 20 times to get only a partial list because of the 10,000 rows rule. I would like to download the database in a weekly or daily created zip file which is auto generated, but alas.

I updated the list in the first post as of April 1.

Done, and checked-in (I've transferred one of the machines to V5, so they were checked-in real-time).

And now, I'll try some 77Ms. They take forever though, but the numbers look nice, e.g. M77777177, M77777377. The round-off looks stable and I'll do them on the Opteron server, it stays up for 365 days - until the yearly UPS checkup.
