That's probably a rough approximation of the relative work we'll complete over the 24 hours...admittedly, probably very rough because of factors such as how much, if at all, the CPU's used by other things, the different speeds because of the different architecture's and how efficient the code is on it, as well as how it bottlenecks (lookin' at you, quad-core

See Anon's response to my same question above. Right now, it's 23:00 Friday to 23:00 Saturday CST US (GMT-6).

But I disagree with this. Why inconvenience our European friends so much? How about 19:00 Friday - 19:00 Saturday CST US? This would make it 20:00 EST US, 01:00 Sat in Portugal, and 02:00 Sat in Germany.

Carlos and Karsten, are 1 AM and 2 AM start times better than 5 AM and 6 AM?

Alternatively, we could even make it mid-afternoon U.S to avoid the dinner hour, i.e. 15:00 CST; 16:00 EST; 21:00 in Portugal; and 22:00 in Germany.

Of course we have to avoid everyone's work schedules too. So if we did a mid-afternoon start time, starting Saturday afternoon (evening in Europe) and going thru Sunday afternoon would probably be better.

It sure is. I tested it several months ago. My 1.6 Ghz Athlon LLR's at almost exactly half the speed of my 1.66 Dell Core Duos and about 45% of the speed of my main desktop, a single-core 3.2 Ghz P4. But it sieves at only about 20% slower than the Dell CDs and faster than the P4 so it's 2 cores are almost always sieving.

What I'll do is put the sieving work that it's doing on my kid's laptop for the weekend (they have exactly the same machine) and load the server software on my always-connected Athlon and let'er rip! Expected testing time will be about 320 secs. per candidate but with 2 cores, it's LIKE it's 160 secs. lol

I look forward to doing this on a top-5000 range in the near future. You know what we might do? Sometime in early March, after drive 3 is started for 300<k<400 and we're about done with 320-333.2 for 400<k<=1001, we should do a 48-hour blitz on n>333.3 for 300<k<400! That would be cool!

We'd make a lot of headway with < 1/6th as many k's to test. Also, there will be more of a 'double check' flavor to the 300s range. (Probably about 10-15% double-check vs. 2-5% for 400<k<=1001.) So blitzing it out like that will get us past some of the n-ranges that have already been searched and make it more fun for individual n-range reservations and testing. We might be able to blow away from n=333.2K-360K or more in a single blitz if we bring everything.

This is more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

I already moved a few cores (6/9) to LLRNet to see if the server can handle a bunch of connections but mainly I don't want to see IronBits to far away from me in the stats...lol

About the start of the rally I would like to suggest the following starting times:

10 PM GMT Friday
10 AM GMT Saturday
7 PM GMT Saturday

BTW, you guys

too much, just move all cores to the rally, ok? I just want some competition....lol

7 PM GMT Sat is good. Close to my alternative selection of 21:00 GMT.

The other two times are not so good here.

Hmmm... I have an AMD X2 2GHz, a P4 3.2GHz, and two laptops, an AMD64 2 GHz and a P4 2.66 Ghz all with Windows XP. Too bad that my Celeron 1.8 GHz under Debian is temporarily dead...

PM me the setting instructions and I'll join the rally with you.

What are you going to do with primes found during the rally? Will they be credited to a project, a single person, the discoverer, or in equal parts to everyone? I should have a couple LLR accounts on PrimePages... Should I use them, or Carlos will take care of all? :-)

The primes found are credit to the founder but won't get into TOP 5000 because we are cleaning a lower range of the project.
