Unhappy gigabyte 8IPE1000PRO2/12k FFT

I'm having issues with the 12k FFT torture test on 23.7.1.

What's happening is 30secs after it starts the 12k FFT, the MS popup appears saying send bug report to MS on prime95.exe. I can still see the prime95 window and it doesn't say any errors. Bizare. Every other FFT so far seems to work aok. I've left the machine on overnight and all aok so far. (about 6hrs continuous usage)

Any ideas?

I've only recently started using this new motherboard. Machine config:

8IPE1000PRO2 (865PE chipset)
P4-2.8GHz (800FSB/HT) not overclocked (SL6WT), HT enabled
running dual channel DDR333
WinXP SP1

One thing that annoys me with this board. Two marketting features it has are called CIA (CPU accelarator), and MIB (memory boost). Which I think represent a 'dynamic overclocking' and '875 PAT' features. I can't find anywhere is the bios to disable them. No info at gigabyte's web site.

I also had the issue that Xyzzy had - the CPU says it's a 1.5V CPU, but the motherboard automatically selected a lower voltage (1.475V). The same issue occurs at both voltages.

I guess the next stages would be:
- drop the memory speed
- try single channel DDR
- disable HT
- try a different ver of prime95. (I only have 23.4 on my machine)

Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds like a prime95 bug. let's see if it is memory related....

Select "custom" torture test. Only run the 12k fft. Then reduce the memory setting and see if that helps.

ok,

I've had a bit of a play with my machine. I found the settings in the BIOS to disable the dynamic overclocking feature. I had to press ctrl-F1 for the option in the bios to appear. As for the memory boost feature the setting is 'enabled' or set to auto :).So I don't know if that's disabled or not. From memory for PAT to be enabled the chipset had to be running 1:1 ratio with FSB:memory. I'm currently 1.66:1. So I'm assuming this feature is off.

I did the following tests, 12k fft, 1024MB physical memory, memory quote below is the 'memory to use' setting in the torture test:

Single channel:
1024MB Failed
512 MB Failed
256 MB Failed
128 MB Failed
64 MB Failed
32 MB Success (ran 15mins 0 errors)

Double Channel:
1024MB Failed
512 MB Failed
256 MB Failed
128 MB Failed
64 MB Failed
32 MB Success (ran 3mins 0 errors)
16 MB Success (ran 3mins 0 errors)

It looks like any allocation 32MB or less works aok.

If there is anything else I can do let me know.

Thanks for looking into this.

It looks like 63MB and under works aok.

10mins on 63MB (12k fft) results in no errors.

Also form the above the ratio comparision is incorrect. I read 1.66 off the motherboard.

As I understand when the ram is DDR400 and FSB is 800MHz, then PAT can be enabled on the 875 chipset. My current mem setup is DDR333 with FSB800Mhz.
