Can we expect any ports of the sieving application anytime soon? It would be kick ass to have a *BSD port...

May I get the source code then to port it to another OS? I would really do a FreeBSD port...

As far I remember, newpgen source is closed :(
But, as it works under Linux, I think that it could compile and work under any *nix with zero modifications. Last fiddled with by gribozavr on 2007-06-16 at 18:49 |

Newpgen? Is it the same as "primegen_5.13_windows_intelx86.exe"? Then it workes as-is with FreeBSD to (through the *BSD Linux Emulation layer)... awesome.

No, Newpgen and primegen are two completely different programs (primegen has nothing to do with TPS and does not remove candidates).

http://primes.utm.edu/programs/NewPGen/ has Linux NewPGen. NewPgen sieves many forms. Whether it takes advantage of 64-bit CPUs as does srsieve is another matter.

I have 64 bit. Is Newpgen not as good srsieve for me then, or not for this project.

srsieve is a fixed k sieve. Since we are sieving a fixed n with a range k, srsieve cannot be used for this project. However, it's faster (in terms of p/sec) to sieve a fixed n with NewPGen than to sieve a fixed k with srsieve, even if you have a 64 bit machine.

Yeah... right. I have two FreeBSD machines around which are eager to contribute to the PrimeGrid project. Therefore I was looking for some primegen port for this very kind of Operating System. Who owns or who wrote primegen?
