Allow me to add a little chirp for The Cricket (Il Grillo) -- anyone with that cute a nickname deserves to be rooted for.

Anyone else think Savoldelli looks like the spitting image of Burt Ward, a.k.a. Robin in the late-60s Batman series? He's a cyclistic Boy Wonder, to boot.

W.r.to "Napoleon Dynamite" McEwen -- I can never root for sprinters, that's the same as saying "Dang, I love these flat stages with the inevitable bunch-sprint finish - I wish they had even more of them!" Like Ekimov said about last year's TdF - "I tune in when the mountains start..."

p.s.: Too bad about Basso, but at least he had the guts to come clean, rather than continue to lie and deny, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, as so many of his cohorts have done and continue to do.

p.p.s.: I take that back about Basso - apparently now he's claiming he banked blood with the infamous Dr. Fuentes, but never actually *used* it. "I didn't inhale..."

Bump for Di Luca. I wouldn't mind Simoni either. After all he was practically my neighbour.

We've lost count of the times Simoni has been 1st, 2nd and 3rd, especially with last year's top 3 being in question now. While he seems like a whiny brat, it could be just the way things are translated to English. We read an interview of him once and he seemed pretty normal.

We're starting to think this might be his year again. (Too bad his bike is so garish! And no Campagnolo! It just isn't right.)

Obviously, we must keep the 10 year Italian winning streak alive, too.

He's still class, it just means that, like all the others, he wasn't superhuman enough to keep up without a boost.
