Possible hardware causes:
Build up of dust on CPU heat sink or fan Bad memory: try http://www.memtest.org/ Overclocking: set back to normal Wrong settings in BIOS for your components. What is your motherboard make and model? What are your memory specifications? Failing power supply unit (PSU). Voltages? Case not cooled enough. Incompatible parts. Last fiddled with by paulunderwood on 2007-03-31 at 04:03 |

Download coretemp utility and tell us your temperature then.

That seems to be contradictory. Shouldn't the FSB be 800? |

There is something wrong with your configuration. "FSB" should be @ 200 MHz, and HTT multiplier @ x5, giving you CPU frequency of 2200 MHz.

A lot of motherboards either underclock or overclock slightly, even if one configures them to "no overclocking". Dell for instance tends to under clock slightly : my 2400 MHz processor at work runs at 2391 MHz. An old laptop runs at 996 MHz instead of 1000 MHz. Asus tends to overclock a little as a standard. The 2% overclock could be one of the "turbo" or "boost" features of the motherboard since it is a bit higher. I do not think that those 2% could give problems on their own, there must be something else wrong.

I am sure that this system is misconfigured right now since "FSB" should be @ 1000 and not @ 800.
Some time ago there was a general problem with stability on S939 platforms with several CPU steppings (e.g. Venice). Updating BIOS usually fixed this problem. Additionally one should disable all "AI" functions delivered by Asus (associated with dynamic overclocking) + Cool'n'Quiet. |

If it's a socket 939 it should be 1000MHz FSB to give 2200Mhz processor.
It would also help you to know your ram is okay anyway by running memtest. If you are unclear about how to this for CDs: * download the ".iso" image from the the "memtest+" website. * unzip the download -- i.e decompress it * use your CD burning software's special feature to burn "iso images" * boot the CD -- you might have to get your computer to read its CD drive before it reads its hard drive by entering your computers BIOS screen. How to do this will be in the manual for your motherboard which can be downloaded from the manufacturers site. Last fiddled with by paulunderwood on 2007-04-02 at 14:48 |
