I understand this forum is world wide and, hence, for many of you English is NOT your first language, so please don't be offended that this puzzle is looking for English words as answers......
The English language is peculiar in the way that it often uses letters unnecessarily. What I am referring to is the silent letters. See if you can find 26 words each of which has one of the silent letters from A to Z. Many have lots of answers and a few of the answers are more obscure, If fact, somewhat contrary to my opening statement, a few of the answers are words inherited from other languages, but that we still use in English. For example: A: boat (the letter A is silent in the word boat) |

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=aegis petrw1, since you started this thread, I think you should be the judge of whether words like this (where a different letter is silent depending on which of the multiple correct pronunciations) count for both or neither (or something else). |
