Sorry to disappoint everyone but while I can strum a steel string around a camp fire, and do own a Fender Stratocaster Electric, my main focus is classical guitar (a la: Chris Parkening, Andres Segovia, The Romeros, Liona Boyd, etc.)

I am far from knowledgeable on the topic but there is a very strong relationship between Math and Music.

m_f_h just PMed me, saying he liked his new avatar, but found the animation distracting. I replied as follows, after disavowing having had anything to do with the avatar switch. (we know who the avatar gnomes are, their names are Xyzzy, Yzzyx, and Mike).

Anyone who uses Firefox can use this to stop the dancing avatars in their tracks:

Quote:
I always browse with image rendering disabled, so I don't see the avatars. (Much faster page loading, too).

If you like the avatar but dislike the animation, you could try turning off image animation in your browser. I know how to do that only in Firefox:

1)type about:config in your URL bar, wait for the menu to appear;
2)enter "imag" (just the letters) in the Filter bar - this will auto-complete and select a submenu of just the options starting with those letters (about 10 of these);
3) right-click on image.animation_mode, select "Modify" from the popup menu, and then change the current value (default is "normal") to "none" (again, no quotes).

That works for most animated images. You don't need to restart your browser for it to take effect - it's immediate.

A new avatar can be easily assigned. All he has to do is ask.
