Does yafu use the hyperthreads for nfs? AFAIK the ggnfs sievers get a fair speedup with it. This might be more pronounced with the newer cpus. I suspect the reason is potentially something to do with the asm routines being written for core2 and needing to be updated.
It is interesting why yours is so different.
Usually, this difference is from accidentally running the old 32-bit sievers, rather than the 64-bit ones posted here a year or two ago. That halving of speed is consistent with 104-cutoff, I think...
