I came across this sieve at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sieve_of_Atkin.
From their explaination all it really does is get rid of all multiples of 2, 3 and 5, then perform a sieve of eratosthenes....

If I understand correctly the theory behind the LL algorithm states:

If its a 3ghz machine it should have no trouble...
If its a 3ghz machine it should have no trouble running prime95. I dont know why changing it from 8 to 30mb would make it crash (unless you only have 32mb of ram). Its doubtful you have burned out...
