Probably because the 16 bit residues are actually 15 bits (perhaps the top bit is a flag for something).

Ex (from your residues):

3 hex = 0011 binary
B hex = 1011 binary

1 hex = 0001...

Or, another encoding would be to...

Greetings.

Initially I was looking at all assignments, but I'm really only interested in the factoring jobs with little progress.

Oh my. Someone really should have at least made sure they are testing prime exponents, since a mersenne prime necessarily has a prime exponent, which is actually proven. Testing mersenne numbers with...

cochet do you mean you actually did the LL test but got an error? Sometimes the error is not significant and the result is actually correct.

Did you return the result in to GIMPS?

Anyway, if...

What I meant was when petrw1 said "boolean array" he probably meant the same thing that you call a bit array. A bit array stores only one bit per value, and can be searched in constant time.

Greetings,

I run a command such as: $ srsieve -f -N 500000 -P 10000000 "561179*2^n+1"It prints out a lot of factors and writes them to srfactors.txt. And at the end it prints:Sieving 3 <= p <=...

Shuffling the set only makes sense if M is small. If M is 1,000,000,000, for example, that approach wouldn't be practical, especially if N is very small.
