That's one of many gaps in my knowledge filled out. I had taken FFTs to be #1 in the above only (throw more FP64 at it), and thought #3 was something else entirely. I think #3 might be the one used...

Is trying to use FPGAs to implement FFTs the best way forward? By that I mean, is there some other algorithm that might work more efficiently on FPGA by taking better advantage of what the hardware...

During the last bubble a couple of years ago, Burst was the disk based "proof of capacity" crypto. Didn't seem to go anywhere since. The link in OP makes this new one sound more intensive in disk...

I got lucky and picked up a 3070 as I happened to be online when new stock was added to a site I visit. But essentially... things aren't looking great. My target was a launch 3080 or hold out for the...

I was asked to compare non-512 performance of Rocket Lake. To disable AVX-512, is all I need to do add the following line to local.txt?
CpuSupportsAVX512F=0

If so, the results were unexpected....

I chose 128k FFT size because it fits one per core with room to spare, and is about the smallest size I'd encounter in my areas of interest. Ram doesn't matter for that.

Once I'm done with some...

11700k just arrived and dropped it in and ran P95 bench pretty much as 2nd thing after CPU-Z to check CPU model and ram setting.

For 128k FFT tasks (one per core) it confirms the data I got...

Zen 3 Epycs run to 280W TDP, and not limited to the top core count parts. Guess that is just where servers are currently.

Other sources show 60MB L3, or typically 1.5MB/core of L3 plus 1.25MB/core of L2 which is non-inclusive so that will also count.

The cache is unified... as much as it was since Skylake server...

Ok, for wider context I looked up on paper how the GPUs compare.

10th gen desktop (Comet Lake) has 24 EUs.
11th gen desktop (Rocket Lake) has 32 EUs with newer Xe architecture
11th gen mobile...

I ended up re-ordering the 11700k after all as I now have an alternate way to obtain it. This time they have shipped it arriving should be tomorrow.

Just got an e-mail saying essentially I wont get it until launch. So I'll cancel that one and re-order at the time as I had intended to get a lower one, not the higher one I saw today. I have more...

I'm setting up to do some testing on the outgoing Comet Lake CPU, which I don't expect to be much different from what I saw with Coffee Lake previously. But it will be the same system with same...

While looking for a new mic at an online store by chance I saw they had Rocket Lake listed as in stock, so I should have a 11700k tomorrow. I didn't get the mic.

Faster ram always helps in this scenario, but with a H370 mobo I believe you're limited to whatever the official speed is supported by the CPU. It would have cost more, but perform better to get a...

Zurek, based on what you have written it sounds like your computer is unstable. Small FFT is one of if not the most intense load you can put on a CPU core. Large FFTs are limited by connectivity...

Making dedicated mining silicon is high risk for something so transitory. Design and manufacturing lead times are too long to cope with that. To de-risk it they could be general compute cards, but...

It is nvidia's right to sell their product how they wish, as it is a consumer's right to buy whatever product suits them. They wish to make "gaming" GPUs less attractive to miners, it is their...

Rocket Lake seems to be highly inspired by Ice Lake, and to my understanding the AVX512 implementation is not going to be silicon hogging since it does not offer additional FP64 execution resource...

Time for a Rocket Lake speculation thread? I'd caution that if the implementation is single unit, the throughput may be no better than AVX2.
