Prime95 (30.8 build 3) silently stopped working at the beginning of P-1 stage 2 - last messages were about setting the affinities for the 3 helper threads (it´s a 4 core machine). Several hours...

Why are you saying it switched from AVX-512 to FMA3 FFT?
As far as I can see, upon entering stage 2 it changed the length of the FFT (and as a consequence the value of B2) but not its type.

That makes a whole lot of sense, and it´s probably happening in my system (I´m using Win10).

Well, that would be the sensible thing to do, no doubt about it. Yet I am not really sure that it´s...

True. I was speaking strictly from P95 point of view. I very often get the impression there are processes not listed in Task Manager, but that are using up significant amounts of memory. For example,...

If you are using 22 out of 32 GB, which I think is the case, there is no reason (as far as memory is concerned) to experience all the symptoms you described. Funny.

How much memory have you allocated to Prime95?
With version 30.8, I have noted similar behaviour here. Thrashing, in particular, can be very hard and render the PC really sluggish occasionally. I...

My own experience:

Started 30.8 around 23:30 last night, on a 12 M range exponent. I ran only one worker, 4 threads; machine is an i5-7400 @3.2 GHz, 16 GB of RAM (Kaby Lake). Allowed Prime95 to...

Shall we leave the B1/B2 values in the worktodo file at B2 = 100*B1 so the program will choose the optimum figures for Stage 2, like in previous versions?

Ok, so I will do P-1 on the 12.0M range. It will take a couple of weeks, I guess. Could you please "release" the range for me?
As for TF, I won´t be doing any in the twok ranges. My GPU is simply...

It´s probably chalsall that assigned 12.9 to me, I don´t know. There´s no indication in Primenet that the range is assigned.

I have started some factoring work in the 12M range.
To avoid toe stepping, here is what I´m doing:

TF: 12.9M to 73 bits. Will take at least 3 months to complete. If/when I stop/finish I´ll let...

@chalsall,

I just started some tests on P-1 for the 12.00 - 12.05 M range. Could you please remove it from the available ranges?
Several results will be sent today, I hope.
Thank you.

Well, reckon I was still half asleep when I wrote the posts. TFing to 73 costs around 76 Ghz-days, not 7.6. So yeah, TFing is bloody expensive.

Sorry, I promise next time I´ll have my morning...

On a second thought, analysing point ii) of my previous post, it is to be noted that 760 GHz-days on a GPU are much easier to achieve than 180 on a CPU. So, after all, TF is not as bad as it looks.
