I'm not fluent in C but did your code use Mp prime ? If so D=2k(Mp)+1 for some k. You only have to test D with certain k values. Nevermind I see the 1 mod 8 versus 7 mod 8 talk earlier in the thread...

yeah I found the errors myself hence the edit reason of doh errors. 12=(8+2-5)+8*(9/9)-(3/3) though. beyond 47 addition won't work without multiplication as well.

no number divisible by a number other than 1 or itself is prime 2p-2 = 2(2p-1-1) therefore is divisible by 2 except when p-1 = 1 and therefore p=2 -- 2p-1-1 = 1
