Yes I think that rule of thumb was associated with ggnfs. I believe this rule was more computational then mathematical in nature but it was years ago. Can’t find any old posts but I’ll dig some more....

No doubt. In the past I’ve compared the skew values as generated by msieve/CADO with the one suggested by cownoise and honestly found little difference. But that’s hardly authoritative. My point is...

Lot of high e-scoring candidates!

How critical is the skew wrt sieving efficiency for these bigger GNFS jobs? Cownoise (and presumably msieve) doesn’t use an input value for skew in the score...

Plutie -

I am curious, what parameters did you use in finding this poly?

One other note, when I first saw this posted it had another skew per CADO but then you edited it to match cownoise. Do...

These ultra high skews associated with high e-score polys may be reducible by half (or more) with Max’s script(s). He has managed this feat several times in the past.

Regardless, I’m in awe of the...

No, I believe you’ll find that EdH found that particular poly by guessing and he got really lucky.:richd:

Fair enough, I was only counting the declared ranges. You’re right of course EdH must have...

Bumping this thread.

Reviewing the past work, it seems ad was searched up to 70M. I did many CADO searches in the 60-70M range playing with parameters and never found any poly worth reporting....

I have some as yet unposted data showing a value of 8M for P produces consistently higher scoring polynomials than P of 14M with all else equal. P=4M produces the lowest scores. We were just...

Maybe sopteffort? I’ve intentionally kept it to the default value of 0 just to limit my test space, but it seems likely to be involved (size optimization time is proportional to sopteffort+1). I...

My best so far in the 60-70M range is only 2.23e-15. But I am still plugging away.

Still collecting data on my various CADO runs on a separate machine. One thing that pops out is that P=8M...

It’s a technique developed by Max. It uses CADO with some tricks to bump a found poly to a higher e-score. I am not familiar with the actual mechanics but Max did send me his recipe in a series of...

I’m still working on my range but I’m playing around a bit in a vain attempt to tune/optimize CADO poly searching a c204. Learning something if nothing else, but collecting data as I go.

So far...

I will attempt 6e7 to 7e7 with P = 4M. May also attempt P values of 8M and 14M if my hardware can handle that search space in a reasonable time.

Ryan Propper was kind enough to ECM 3,748+ to the t65+ level. It is ready for GNFS.

Anyone interested in a poly hunt? The record e-score for a C204 is 2.630e-15. Suggest focusing on deg 5, as deg...

In that case I’ll begin enqueuing 3_748+ on Yoyo@Home next week at the t65 level. It will probably take most of the summer to chew it up completely.

It’s a good question - I can enqueue the number on Yoyo@Home but at what level?

How about a full t60 followed by most of a t65? But that’s just a guess.
