mprime communication failure
 

I have set up a diskless P4 which I never got to communicate over Internet, so I started another instance of mprime on the computer which has the disk, just to reserve some work. Today the diskless client finished its first exponent and created a prime.spl file in /database/prime/ws001 where it was created with user root. When I got home from work I started another instance on the computer with the disk to communicate, but I forgot to log in as root first. And the I got the error message:

ERROR: Unable to open spool file.
Unable to open log file.
ERROR: Unable to open spool file.
Unable to open log file.

At the time I didn't see those messages, so I selected 12. Manual communication, and accepted the default options. When I "acceped the answers above" the programs just wrote out

Done communicating with server.

But it had not reported the result. Still it removed the prime.spl.

The permissions of prime.spl were -rw-r--r-- and of the directory ws001 drwxrwxrwx. Both owned by user root and group root. I was user pjoh group pjoh when communicating.

Maybe the client shouldn't remove the spool file just because it couldn't write to it. But now I'm aware of the problem. I'll log in as root next time.

BTW, thanks Prime_Monster for the info about diskless clients--I never would have managed the diskless boot without your website.
