5th RPS Rally time...

Ladies and Gentleman's,

I would like to propose a 5th RPS Drive Rally for a duration of one or two months. The goal here is to move all our CPU resources to the rally, get closer to 1M and to find the "King of Prime Numbers". Of course we can work out some other type of stats, anyone here fancy for some stats?

So when should we start? I still have a week of 105 LLRing to do...what about you all?

By the end of the rally I expect RPS to be first in terms of number of primes found.

Carlos,

Sounds like a good idea to me! :geek: It remainds me of Seti gauntlets we had on Ars Technica forum 5-6 years ago. I'll join, but my resources are going to be limited until mid od December.

BTW, note that Masser and Robert are not recently active in RPS while SB2 is active but doesn't visit the forum often. I'll inform B'maxx, I'm sure he will join, but not before he completes his k=105 reservations.

Carlos,

I am honourded that you thought about me.but I have several questions:

Can anyone disable the temperature throttle on my 3.0 Ghz machine?
I have seen that these ranges contains 700+ candidates,
my "old" 2.4 ghz machine will take a long time (12 hours a day). A range can take up to 2+ months I am afraid.

i joined this drive a week ago because i think we should complete running drives or just come to end before we start another overwhelming one.
for the newbies: with my first reserved range ever on any drive i found my biggest prime so far! so the drives a good choice to join because of the sieving done so far (i never would sieve such thing to 30T).
by now i'm compiling summary pages for the 5 drives (will available end next week with new update) and of today the 5th drive is complete to about 71% and 3rd drive at 63%.
the summary pages contains also some stats.
so i will further reserve ranges in this drive and try to push up my other 2 k's 209 and 297 too.

I'm in. I'll move 4-5 machines to 5th drive for at least one file each as each one finishes its current file.
Note this call to arms only produces more primes if machines reallocated were testing non-RPS things, or higher n-values than the 5th drive. As such, I'm only moving machines that were doing megabit work.

Hey guys (Grobie, Flatslander et al.) of course it's not compulsory, and even if you agree to join it doesn't have to be right now.

Edit: On the other hand, SB2 just reported yet another low-weight prime and we are now only 5 primes behind PIES. So if you want to help, please join the drive NOW!

I'm up to 3 machines working on the 5th drive and will shift others
over as they free up.

I'll go up to six cores leaving one for k=125...

gd_barnes 2007-11-28 18:03

Great rally post, Carlos! Got me interested...

I have to wait for one of my main efforts to finish first...should be about 3 weeks. At that time, I will throw 4 cores at this effort for a while.
