How is the sieve going?

VBCurtis 2008-04-03 15:22

Nearly complete to 325T. I'm working actively on a couple ranges, with reservations available in the 1300-1400 range.

Specifically:
1260-1280 complete, reserving 1280-1300.

1280-1300 complete.
Reserving 1300-1320. k=5 has quite a lot of candidates, it seems.

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about k=5 a bit, and how due to the fact that it's sort of stagnated of late, and is searched to a relatively low n-level for a k this low, it is in especial danger of being 'picked off' by Benson et al. It would seem that searching a k fast enough to make it not worth Benson's time to pick it off is the only defense against him--so, as a member of the administrative staff of the No Prime Left Behind project, I propose a partnership between RPS and NPLB to jointly push k=5 up to an n-level more consistent with it being such a low k. What I had in mind was that NPLB could take a somewhat large range, say 1.35M-1.5M, and serve it up as a team drive over in their forum (including a dedicated LLRnet server), and RPS could continue searching around that range normally. Primes found in NPLB's ranges would be credited jointly (Primesearch/Rieselprime), while those found in RPS's ranges would be credited solely to RPS.

I can practically guarantee that there would be significant enough amount of computing power thrown on k=5 through NPLB to make such a partnership worthwhile, and to have k=5 in reasonably Benson-proof condition within a couple of months at maximum.

Please consider this offer and let me know if you guys are interested!

I think Kosmaj needs to update the reservation board....

Some work has been done on this k; I still have a little bit left to complete on my reservation. I'll update the completed ranges in a couple weeks.

As discussed by Curtis and I via PM, I'll take an n=20K block. Curtis, you can send it to the email address I provided in my PM.

VBCurtis 2008-08-19 08:35

Anon-
The first unreserved block is 1430 to 1450. I emailed it to you this evening.

I finally have a free machine to finish the last few tests for 1320 to 1350; it should wrap up in a week or so. I'm reserving 1450 to 1460 for that machine also.

Other forum members have completed 1350 to 1420 and sent me results- thanks, folks. 1420 to 1430 is not complete yet, but reserved.

For those who may be interested, a 10k block has ~500 tests.
