She took her daughters with her on a trip to NY.
They were NOT part of any official function, nor

travel.

Hey, maybe she was taking her girls to NY for some partying and getting-knocked-up action. Under her broadly religious view of governance, supporting procreation of Alaskans would likely qualify as a "legitimate state interest". Since being a good and humble Christian she doesn't want to force her fellow citizens to send their teenage daughters out for a good porking [even if a taxpayer-funded one], she was just sacrificing her own for the good of the state. Really a quite magnanimous gesture, and clearly yet another of the many tasks "taken from God" which the Dear Governor is willing to shoulder. [On the opposite shoulder from the one where she carries her drooling infant, that is].

Early voting
 

We voted on the 16th. Has anyone else voted yet?

We've never voted before. (It is our opinion that in our state our vote has never mattered before.)

The method of voting we have is a paper that you blacken the circles in for who you want to vote for. For people who don't have much time to think, there is an option to vote straight Democrat or Republican.

When we went to check out no receipt was provided. You just put the paper into a big scanner and it acknowledged it received something.

We only voted for 3 of the seemingly hundreds of offices available. We don't see how anyone could be informed enough to vote for everything.

There were tons of different ballots, depending on where you lived. We got ballot #42.

The line was about an hour long. There were no snacks. We got a cute "I Voted!" sticker. The people running the place seemed nice.

We received today, on our cell phone, a robocall from one of the people we voted for. Had we received the robocall prior to voting we're not sure if we would have voted the same way. We thought cell phones were exempt from solicitors. They even (somehow) spoofed the number to "000-000-0000". (We don't answer "ID Restricted" calls.)

Watch what she says after election day -- will she and Dobson credit God for God's intercession in electing Obama (should God be inclined that way, that is)?

Or will she after-the-fact decide that her own right-wing human judgement about what would have been "right" on election day was superior to what God just revealed, after all? Hmmm?

You know, if all the religious people who have real faith in God and who sincerely believe that God will make "the right thing" happen on election day actually converted to Democrats afterwards (if Obama should win, that is), then Democrats might have a real problem keeping the Religious Right from seizing control of the party! Notice that in this case, the only religious folks left in the GOP would be those who lacked genuine faith in God!

We voted on the 17th. Even when we lived in NY, we voted because Senate, House, Governor, State Senate, State House and local races could be very close; a good candidate might need our votes.

That sounds identical to our experience.

We voted for two Democrats (Obama and Udall), three Republicans (East and two county council candidates), a Green (public regulation commission), and an independent (another county council candidate).

We also voted yes to a Gross Receipts Tax to support local public transportation and a bond issue to fund medical centers. We voted against three other bond issues.

We voted for two out of five proposed amendments to the state constitution.

Our local newspaper printed a county voter's guide. It was very helpful. We also went to our county's election office about a week before to collect a sample ballot. We filled out the sample ballot at home and took it with us when we voted. We (my wife and I) sat next to each other so we could both consult our "cheat sheet" ballot. Our votes were identical, except for one race. We voted in every race where our vote mattered. (There were several positions where only one person was running and write-ins were not permitted; what's the point of voting then?). We did skip another section of our ballot: state judges need to be ratified by their constituents every few years. The state bar association recommended that all of the judges on our ballot be ratified, but we were not sure. NM has a terrible drunk driving problem and part of the blame lies with judges that give insanely lenient sentences to repeat offenders. For instance, a few months ago, a man in Albuquerque was arrested for drunk driving for the 28th time in his life. We would not want to ratify the judge who let this fellow go free with a driver's license after the 27th time.

There was no line, no snacks and no stickers. I did steal a pen (by accident). There were only three ballots. We did not have to show our ID or voter registration card; just fill out a card with our name and address. We wonder what would happen if we claimed to be our neighbor (or anyone else in town for whom we know full name and address info).
