Repeated? You might look back at my posts.
You're right.

I shouldn't have said "omission of the 'Hillary' word" (too much TV influence), but instead should have said something like: "... how does that jibe with your repeated tying of "strict father" to weaker-candidate or to crossover-voting instead of to the specific choice of Hillary?"
I shouldn't have said "omission of the 'Hillary' word" (too much TV influence), but instead should have said something like: "... how does that jibe with your repeated tying of "strict father" to weaker-candidate or to crossover-voting instead of to the specific choice of Hillary?"
It's because I (mistakenly) broadened the context from "thinking Hillary is weaker" to "thinking Hillary is weaker and DOING something about it." For example, when you wrote-- "I was referring to the crossing-over Republicans' expressed motivation of candidate choice ("to vote for Hillary because they considered her to be the less-formidable opponent for McCain"), not to the (quite legal) act of crossover voting itself."--I mistakenly took "motiviation" to include (along with candidate choice motivated by "strict father" worldviews) a desire to win the election by "vot[ing] for Hillary". Strictly speaking, the "strict father" worldview wasn't part of the motivation "to vote" even if it was the motivation of candidate choice, so you can understand my mistake.
So, you consider Hillary to be a very strong world leader?
No, but nice try anyway.

The 44th president's $4 trillion headache

This gets back to my earlier comment about "I almost hope someone I dislike wins":

The 44th president's $4 trillion headache The candidates want to do things like reduce taxes and fix health care. But they'll have to deal with the cold realities of the federal budget.

LOL, just days after making loud "plagiarism!" charges against Obama for unattributed use of some lines from a speech given by his buddy John Henry Lewis, Hillary herself does *exactly* the same thing:

Bill Clinton, 1992: “The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of this state and this country have been taking for a long time.”

Hillary Clinton, 2008: “You know, the hits I’ve taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country.”

Happens all the time, so many words and speeches given - luckily for us this kind of gaffe doesn't matter in Hillary's case, because as she now reminds us constantly, hers is the candidacy which is "not about words." [Strangely, for a candidate-not-about-words, she sure seems to use quite a lot of them.]

Some toddler election humor here...

My 3 year old daughter has developed something of a crush on a certain Presidential candidate. Although she cannot read (of course), she knows his campaign logo, recognizes his name in print, recognizes his face, and certainly knows his name as well.

So, I put on one of my favorite CDs last night, The Best of Gap Band...

We get along to track #7 and suddenly her face lights up...

Adorable Cherub: "They're singing about Obama!!!"
Me: "What?!?"
Adorable Cherub: "They're singing about Obama!!!"
Me: "Obama?!?"
Adorable Cherub: "Yeah... they said 'you dropped Obama on me'!!"

Surely you can't seriously label that as plagiarism? It's quite likely that Bill Clinton's turn of phrase from 16 years before was indeed the subconcious source of Hillary's but you need a lot more correlation points than that to conclude that someone is using someone else's creativity. Everyone uses phrases and indeed whole ideas which they have heard before all the time without being particularly aware if it, especially if the phrases were uttered by someone close to them. That's how the brain works when we talk: it's a constant copy-and-paste operation of phrases and ideas. If that means that they are not our own, then we are all just a big bunch of copy-cats.

garo 2008-02-23 10:39

I think Ernst's point is not that Hillary is plagiarizing - it becomes clear if you read the last paragraph of his post - but that Hillary was wrong to accuse Obama of plagiarizing when what he did was what she and pretty much everyone else does.

Brian-E 2008-02-23 11:56

Yes, I understand what Ernst was saying. My point is that while there is a good case for saying that Obama plagiarised someone else's speech, the case against H.Clinton is flimsy to say the least. There's a difference between lifting significant chunks verbatim and using a similar turn of phrase in a single sentence. We need to find a comparable instance of plagiarism if we want to justifiably accuse Hillary of hypocrisy.

Boy, not only do the Clinton's parse their language very finely, but it seems that their supporters do too.

Nice. :tu: Good to see Obama doing well among the crucial "Females age 3-5" demographic.

I also did not know that Hillary had a "campaign 2008" music CD out - "You dropped Obama on me" is her line, isn't it? [Even if not, it sure must be the way she's feeling these days.]

Intriguing comment. As someone who doesn't even know how to finely parse his language (which by the way is Dutch) and who isn't currently aquainted with any Clinton supporters (most of my friends agree with me that it doesn't matter too much which Democrat challenges for the presidency of the USA as long as they beat the Republican candidate), I'd like to hear more about this.
