Here is the log file. looks like the dreaded ERROR 3 is causing the freeze.

Just a followup to this. The ERROR 3 resolved itself after the 70 minute timeout but after the client communicated with the server and sent the result and got new assignments, the worker thread stayed stuck and no work was done.
|
When I run the linux version, it only runs for an hour, then it stops requesting new assignments. It just sits there with the message "No work to do at the present time. Waiting."
I had requested trial factoring to low limits. |
Yup this is pretty much the same error I am seeing. It is on Linux and has happened 5 times now. You'll see that the prime.spl file is full but the comm thread just does not do anything about it.
Once I initiated a manual comm from another mprime instance but then the worker thread did not recognize that the worktodo was full again. |
Another follow-up on this error. I just checked and my v25.4a instance which is timestamped 8/21/07 seems to still have a memory leak. The virtual memory is now up to 2168MB even though the resident mem is 8.9MB.
drew, can you check the virtual memory allocation on your linux instance? This may also be related to why mprime stops working/communicating. |

emailed prime log
Every once in a while my v25.4 I get a windows vista message saying this program has stopped working properly and asks me to close. I have no idea what it is.
I thought it was my Pc-Cillin 2007(which has never interfered with previous versions but is the only program other than P95 that runs continually) I added P95 to my anti-rus software "allow" list. Cut down the number of virus and online checks it does, ran the update and a full scan of spyware, viruses etc in the memory, file system... etc but P95 was fine. Could it be the memory leak that is causing the problem? George I've mailed a copy of my prime log taken a couple of minutes after the application stopped along with some screen dumps of my task manager and resource monitor in case you find it useful |
feature request
On the basis of this problem I'm going to ask for a feature!
Would it be possible to have the ability to set P95 to restart after x minutes if it encounters a problem or becomes inactive? ... Oh yes. And if you reduce the number of threads running would it be possible to have P95 unreserve the exponents in that thread automatically? I only ask because currently you just get an error message saying there are too many sections in the worktodo.txt |
I did not have any memory problems running ECM, only with TF. My guess is the problem may be the high frequency of comming when doing TF.
|
Maybe? I'm running a mix, I'm using between 2 and 4 cores running ECM and TF work.

I'm also in Vista. I have 2GB of memory, and I'm not sure if the memory setting in Prime95 is supposed to be per thread or for the entire program. It seems like it tries to get the whole program under it, but sometimes it can start using much more memory. When I had it set to 800-1000MB (4 cores), I was getting about one fatal error a day. I set it to 700MB a few days ago and haven't gotten an error since. It's doing ECM on 4 cores. 3 of them are in stage 2 right now, and it's using 940MB. |
