NFS, Bamboo, 1964, Gerbils, Amoebae & HP Calculators

Where can I found some information about how the number field sieve works? I believe I have read enough number theory and algebraic geometry to understand it but I just don't know where is the theory explained.

Have a look at Matthew Briggs' thesis:

I wonder why meknowsnothing is supposed to have only 1 post while (s)he alerady started at least 2 threads. Maybe someone with direct connection to Our Master (I forgot the correct title) might tell Him about this oddity. (I still did not gain access to diverse supposedly existing (non?)secret DH forums...)

It looks fine here.

(Sometimes the database loses track of how many posts people have. Especially if a lot of stuff is moved around or deleted. So, every once in a while, we run a query that checks each and every post and recalculates the total post count for each user.)

good point.
Also, I wonder why the on-lnie editor sometimes permutes the letters I type, garbles my message by duplicating words or replacing a word by a random other one, or even puts completely stupid nonsense posts with my name...

PS: noticed the on-lnie ? of course I types on-line !!
PPS: and of course I typed "typed" and not "types" !

Oh, but we can. It is just that, reasonably, we are not justified in doing so.

We planted a bush yesterday here at mersenneforum.org headquarters. We hope that its CO2 consumption will help offset the CO2 expelled by the power plant that provides our server with electricity.

We'd hate to have to blame the database for global warming.

:ermm:

We figure if we plant enough bushes, trees and stuff we can justify a new car.

nice action. very original: a bush.

Hum. It is a big bush, is it ?
We'd hate to have to blame the database for global warming.:ermm:
Don't worry, next ice age will come, for sure.

Well, do not hesitate to plant trees and "stuff" (depending on what stuff, better plant it in your basement...), but you chose a particularly environment-unfriendly car...
Hum. It is a big bush, is it ?
No, a small one. We've attached a picture of the bush and our other plants.

Picture 1 Item 1: The new, unidentified bush.

Picture 1 Item 2: A sad Calla Lily. It has resisted all efforts to keep it from dying. We are close to pulling the plug.

Picture 1 Item 3: It wasn't a weed so we planted it. With our luck it is probably Poison Sumac.

Picture 2: Any plant in this picture can be considered "death resistant". They have survived two years of neglect and abuse. We hope the weird tall grass eventually takes over, to make the yard look less cluttered.

Unfortunately, bamboo is prohibited from being planted up front. We are still looking onto planting bamboo in the back yard. We found a neighbor down the street with a bamboo forest but we haven't had the opportunity to approach them yet to find out what kind it is. (Paul: Can you just splice a piece off of a bamboo and transplant it?)
