Now Testing M20,000,000+
GIMPS has broken into the M20,000,000 Lucas-Lehmer testing range :D ! I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing :? , but it is a definite sign of progress :( . Sure we will have to start using 1280K FFT sizes  , but you will NEVER notice :D . I'm looking forward to testing my first 20million exponent :D , are you?
|
You forgot to include an option of M33,000,000 + ;)
heretic |
 .How did I miss that  ? Sorry to all 33million+ testers :) (Just vote D.C. and Factoring pretending nothing happened wrong ;) ) .
|
I think you can still edit it...
|
I already tested one 21M exponent, changed the worktodo from factoring to first time ...
The progress of the project is impressive. I started about two years ago, when the typical first time test was 13M. We can thank Northwood for that ... |

I don’t think I can edit the poll as a member :? , but I know it can be done as an Administrator (from experience with other forums :D ). |
Your wish is my command! :D

Small stuff, try testing an exponent in the 79m range. Trial factoring alone took 9 months..... |
Re: Now Testing M20,000,000+
That must have been a pretty slow box ... I did five TF runs on a 1333 tbird, taking about a month each. Found a 69 bit factor, what a relief that was - saved about two years of LL work. Still have to start the actual test, waiting on that GB of ram for P-1. There are a few on the team, one has something like 60 million iterations already.

With it taking so long to do primes under 10M would it not be more sensible to work these ones out now and wait for technology to catch up a little. When all the primes are tested upto 20M the computers will be able to formulate them so much faster.
The reward for finding a 20M prime digit is less than the chance of winning THE LOTTERY for the moment |
Yeah, but the lottery has no scientific value.

Sadly, while I've been doing 33,000,000+ exponents almost from when I started with GIMPS, I've not been doing them for years.
Yet. Unless you're counting P90 CPU years, that is. 8-) |
I'm glad to hear this. But the new exponent assigned to me is only 15M ;) ;) ;)

One of my machines picked up a M14 right before i posted this tread :( , but i noticed a M20 in my work status :D . |
Looks like this poll lost a fight with a blender.

In fact, a lot of the older polls (mostly in the Lounge) seem to have all been munged together like this. Xyzzy, what's up? P.S.: In case it helps, these things have been like this for a while. That is, long enough that I haven't ever seen them otherwise. |
