Well, the second fan of my ThinkPad T42 just died. Given the age of the laptop, I've decided to retire it instead of getting a new fan. It's served me well for over 11 years.

Sorry to hear. That's running a Pentium M? What were you using it for?

It was pretty much for surfing the web and playing DOS games. |
Another dead chick...
So, the sun went down. It was around 1840 local time.
A chick was crying for its mother. The mother was nowhere to be found. The cats had cornered the chick. The cats weren't hungry, but they are always open to a game of catch and release. I caught the chick and I made a stupid mistake: I introduced the chick to another hen. The chick ran up to the hen to get warmth. At first I thought the hen had accepted it. But then we found the chick dead this morning. The hen had sat on and killed the chick. |
Don't expect caring responses from chickens which exceed their programmed imperatives. I know there are cases of various fowl types adopting an orphan, but it is probably hit or miss if the potential foster hen does, or doesn't give a poop.
Really, my experience with them is that they are not that bright, and kind of mean. |

In mammalian terms, chickens appear to be perhaps as bright as cows or deer. One of our chucks is smarter than usual. All are inquisitive by nature but she sticks her beak in wherever something interesting is going on. Climbing on my arm for a closer look while I'm rewiring an electrical outlet, for instance. Climbing into holes as they are being dug --- she's still got all her limbs and head only by me taking great care and by picking her up and forcible removing her. This chuck has great navigational abilities She knows how to get from an open door anywhere to the cat food bowl in the kitchen. I could recount many other stories. |

Yeah, agreed. Chickens are brighter than many think. Similar to your example, one of the chickens we adopted comes into the house and bee-lines to the cat's kibble as soon as we open any of our doors. She is very smart, and waits until we aren't watching. And, for example, if we keep the south doors closed but open the north or west doors, she figures that out within minutes and enters and eats. It's a pity they can't be house trained! They shit randomly and frequently!!! |
SWMBO has decided to go on a diet. This generally means that I go hungry and lose weight.
My suggestion that scampo, chip(*) and pea would be a suitable evening meal didn't go down too well. (*) "Fry" in parts of North America. |
My i7-4770k turned a bad result to PrimeGrid. On checking xsensors, I realized it was running very hot. What with summer ahead, I ordered a cheap water cooling system

Tried unmounting the stock cooler from the mobo and vacuuming/blowing out the narrow crevices in the heatsink fin assembly? (That also allows you to have a look at the state of the thermal paste.) Leaving the case side panel on the mobo business side off can also be useful. |
While working in a TAR (turn around) in a refinery I got an bicycle.
Sofar so good, but to my bad luck is hunting me. There was an oil track in a curve. I suggested it was water, but...hehe The gravity seems to love me and got me to the ground. Me left knee hurts, but it seems to be okay. This happend 10 minutes before the end of working day. |
