A good start will be to plug it in to a Linux box. If it is recognized as a disk drive, something like /dev/sde will appear. After that, [c]sudo dd if=/dev/sde of=/flash-drive[/c] should extract everything extractable (assuming there's enough space on the root partition to store the entire flash drive in a single file, put it somewhere else as appropriate).
Then, and only then, should you try anything else. With luck you may be able to dd the disk image to another drive and then fsck it back into the real world. Otherwise what you do depends on how valuable the data is and how much effort you are prepared to put in to recovering it. There have been times when I've had to pull raw disk sectors into Emacs and/or od(1) to examine them; grep(1) can also be extremely useful The above is essentially what we did in OxCERT to examine any remaining evidence on a compromised system, including deleted files and the contents of the swap file or partition.
Thanks a lot. I´ll test it when I´m back at home. (2-3 weeks) Somehow there was an backup from the important stuff on my 4 TB HDD, too. (1,2 TB full of Games I never played...) |
One of my cats appears to have cancer...
My youngest "kitten" has growths on her lips. We have repeatedly tried treating with antibiotics, with little success.
She is halfway through a last treatment, and then she goes "under the knife" on Friday. Phobos (she's a rare female "ginger" I rescued) will likely be seriously disfigured by the surgery, but might live a few more years. I'm seriously scared and sad.... |
Best wishes for Phobos. As one who has been carved on many times for skin cancer, I truly feel for her.

Don't give up hope. Our 8 month old puppy was diagnosed with papillary squamous cell carcinoma. They removed the tumor and recommended removal of the lower jaw as a "cure". We elected not to do that and 5 years later the dog is cancer free.
I hope your outcome is as positive as ours was. |

Thank you George. That helps. We have decided to get a second opinion before surgery. Attached is a picture of Phobos from a couple of days ago. A cat never rolls on its back unless it feels save. |

Sigh... mere hours after posting that, I got home to a sick cat. He's been lethargic for a couple days, not eating much at all. So, having been through this too many times before with other cats (used to have 4, now down to one) I took him to the vet pronto. He's all blocked up, if you know what I mean. Got some lactulose to give the poor fella... 3 doses now and still no movement below, but fingers crossed. I had another cat with similar chronic issues that lead to a megacolon. That was NOT fun at all and eventually caused his passing. Sigh. That's why I try to be quicker at spotting the signs and getting things handled sooner. Live and learn. |
I had a molar extracted earlier this morning. The operation required vast amounts of local anaesthetic injected in three separate batches. The anaesthetic is now wearing off so I'm beginning to feel rather weird though not, as yet, in pain.
