I suspect it is meant to be the much worse word "twat".

You must have parked in someone's spot or something.
It's a public car park in front of the church where all neighbours leave their cars. Lately there has been a lot of vandalism on the surroundings by teenagers. I am aware this will be discussed on the council's meeting next week. My landlord already had complains from other tenants on this anti-social behaviour taking place in this small city.
It's a public car park in front of the church where all neighbours leave their cars.
Yes, but that doesn't nullify the possibility that someone still thinks of it as "their spot".

Can't argue with that stupidity which I know it happens mainly in Switzerland. The two occurrences happened in different spots, in one week time frame.
My opinion: Brexit.

So, I thought I was being clever, and spent BDS $300 (about USD $150) for six gallons of mineral oil to drown the mosquitoes in our three 1000 gallon rain water tanks.

But then today, we got 40 mm (4 cm) of rain in less than an hour!

The overflow drain was overwhelmed, and the tanks overflowed.

I now have $300 worth of mineral oil staining the concrete, and having to be cleaned up.

Linda is going to yell at me for my stupidity (rightly so, IMO).

I thought you would have known that by now.

Yeah, I have (finally) learnt that... Women, like cats, will do whatever they want. Men, like dogs, should learn to deal with this fact.

And Linda (bless her heart) actually laughed about this incident.

The conversation started by my asking her "Do you remember your asking me if the interconnecting drainage plumbing between the tanks was antiquate, and I assured you that it was except possibly for instances of extremely fast and heavy rainfall?

SWMBO: "Yes...

Me: "We got extremely fast and heavy rainfall today. Oh, and just so you know, I am currently shop-vac'ing up six gallons of mineral oil from the tank room...

If I may share... Linda and I had been at one of her projects during the 4 cm downpour at our home during the morning. An absolutely beautiful nursery school which is scheduled to come online this next Monday with 150 "youngish". No rain fell there during that time; weather can be very strange here in Bimshire.

I can't believe you don't have a level detector to open a safety valve in the bottom of that tanks when the level of the water/oil gets too high. That is extremely simple device to do.

You don't even need a valve, just a U-shaped tube that goes to the bottom so the oil never goes up it.

How does that work without becoming a syphon and draining everything away?

The outside side of the U needs to be very short.
How does that work without becoming a syphon and draining everything away?
Why doesn't this work?

where ." is water and "~" is oil. The overflow pipe is raised from the bottom of the tank to collect sludge so that the system (cistern?) doesn't have to be drained and cleaned so often. The rim of the tank is markedly higher than that of the overflow pipe so that the weight of any excess pumps the water through the narrower pipe. It can be overwhelmed with a sufficiently great inflow but that's true of any device.

There is no possibility of syphoning and the lack of moving parts makes for a simple and robust solution.
