Would it, or would it not, be compressed?
The point I was /trying/ to make is we're always told that fluids can't be compressed. This is simply not true. It's a lie (read: simplification) we tell children when trying to teach science.
And an easily refuted lie, which any child can test. Sound waves are pressure waves --- alternate periods of rarefaction and compression. That's also told to children when trying to teach science. You can hear things when underwater. |

You can hear things when underwater.
We do need to distinguish between liquid and gaseous fluids, however, since the relative compressibilities of those tend to differ by multiple orders of magnitude, and the equations of state describing said phenomena are radically different. In real-world applications 'water is incompressible' is a very good approximation, probably no worse than "solar system dynamics obey Newton's laws of gravitation". |
When electro-magnetic waves transit from one point to another, what exactly is waving?
We do need to distinguish between liquid and gaseous fluids
Easy enough. Liquids have a surface when in a sufficiently large container.

I was supposed to be flying to France tomorrow, but my plans were cancelled. My employer wants me to stay in Tennessee another for up to 7 more days to support a customer. I guess that I will have to wait longer before I can go to Europe.

Spring is starting to arrive here in Europe. The longer you wait, the better the weather will be! |
I'm on a bad luck wave.
1) 9th February grandfather passed away 2) 7th March big friend passed away due to pancreas cancer 3) 9th March my car was in a middle of a flood. Engine damaged. Bought new car. Car insurance payed back 60% of the car valued. 4) 24th March, my wife had a car accident, lorry smashed righ hand side of the car when my wife was on left lane to leave to first exit of a roundabout. Lorry which was on middle lane went to left lane. Lorry hit and run. We have two witnesses. Reported incident to police and car insurance. Awaiting for them to come back. Courtesy car will be supplied by insurance but we have the issue because no one managed to take note of the lorry reg plate, only the lorry freight company name. Wife is ok but still nervous. So who has more unluck than we? BTW, we were saving to have a baby and to buy me a new computer. Carlos |
Glad the wife is ok. I have been in a few accidents. Often there was nothing I could do. Not fun. The nerves will last a few more days.:ouch2::ouch1:

 If the police investigate properly, and "Failing to stop after an accident" is a serious traffic offence so they should do so, then the company will asked which of its vehicles were in that area at that time. Good luck! Unhappy myself. Next post ... |

Isn't the UK the land of ubiquitous CCTV? The location of the crash could be examined for nearby cameras. Good luck. I hope this wave is subsiding for you! |
