Many here may be unsurprized that I have liver failure.
This must be a huge knock for you. Best of luck with the treatment and I hope you are soon back to full strength and feeling well again. |
I'm very sorry to hear of this, David. I send you my supportive thoughts.
Hope RDS makes a good recovery.
We seem to be dropping like fliss. Many here may be unsurprized that I have liver failure. Anyone heard from Richard (Cheesehead) recently? Love to both friends and enemies, David
Jeebus. Is it something that looks to be simple to treat (the liver is IIRC quite adept at healing itself of less severe injuries, given enough time)? Perhaps abstention from the Special Brew for a brief period? Much more of this and I'll begin to wonder if long-term searching for prime numbers isn't hazardous to one's health. God bless, and may you have a quick return to better health. Perhaps we should take up a collection c/o St. Mersenne's Hospital for the Sick and Tired, for all of our wounded warriors of late. |
I've mentioned before that I hate Minecraft. Let me rephrase that. I had Minecraft mods. So many of these mods require the downloading of some third party "download manager" and even with that getting the mod is near impossible.
My kids have been asking me to install some Minecraft mods for them. I just realized today how many websites with mods have links to pornography or things relating to sex, i.e. sexual enhancement products, adult dating, etc. Even with NetNanny, many of the ads are not blocked. I understand that sex and ads relating to sex drive a lot of the internet, but it would be nice if the authors of these mods weren't driven by the few dollars that the ads generate for them. |
third party "download manager"
Doesn't "download manager" = "spyware" that you would please install for them? Or that's what I heard... |
Never install that kind of crap on a serious computer! (like the one you use to access your bank account, hehe). Minecraft is not bad, are "the sharks" who take advantage of the naivety of the players (mostly teenagers, not knowing the world there outside), akruppa is right, most of those dlm are spyware. That is where VirtualBox really comes in hand. Spawn a new WinXP (or other) guest OS, do all you want from there, at the end copy the useful files to the host system, kill the guest. No overload...

SWMBO went into hospital on Tuesday for an estimated 6-week stay.
The operation went reasonably well but she had a bad reaction to IV morphine and spent almost 24 hours in post-op recovery before being moved to a general purpose ward. Consequently she's in some discomfort though the nurses and quacks are doing their best. Oh well. |

I am sincerely sorry. Edit: If She Who Must Be OKed enjoys books and/or music, an iPad, a Kindle and/or an Android might be a worthwhile gift.... |
What kind of operation did she need? Nothing serious, I hope.
And I suppose your shingles attack is behind you by now? |
I am sincerely sorry.
Edit: If She Who Must Be OKed enjoys books and/or music, an iPad, a Kindle and/or an Android might be a worthwhile gift....
Thanks. She has her Kindle and Samsung Galaxy tablet in with her. There's WiFi in the ward but she needs to track down a friendly geek to supply her with the password. She took a couple of books in with her and there's an extensive reading list ready to replace them in due course. As you may be able to guess, this surgery was planned well in advance --- November IIRC. Paul |
I hope your better half is able to "just say no to quack" reasonably soon, Paul.
Edit: If She Who Must Be OKed enjoys books and/or music, an iPad, a Kindle and/or an Android might be a worthwhile gift....
Last summer I gifted my niece a Kindle, and used my laptop to free-download ~50 classic-books from PlanetPDF. I initially copied them to her e-reader, but since xmas have been enjoying the copies on my laptop - just started Anna Karenina. Sorry, no free downloads of the Twilight saga and such - literary drivel, tripe and pabulum all cost actual money. |
