Now that Blazys thread is frozen, I feel like I'll never find out whether Rogue is a pole dancer or a gangsta rapper.
I still chuckle when I think of the mental image I have in my head of Mr. Blazys saying 'gangsta.' But, that is small comfort. damn it feels good to be a gangsta real gangsta-assed mathers don't Fermat much, cause real gangsta-assed mathers know the counterexamples. absolutely not safe for work if you need the reference. |

The last months I've been having more computers at my house... (not high end, no gpu) running 24/7, I was surprised to see the power bill go up noticeably :edit:

The scenario:
A trivial task of copying an ISO image to a USB drive. We've done it countless times. So we do this a few days ago and everything is fine. Until we reboot (today) and the system is gone. Instead, our SSD boots up into ISO install! Our guess? The system cached all of the system files and only the reboot exposed that those files were missing.
dd if="file" of=dev/sda
We probably should have used /dev/sdb! :max: |

Congratulations! You overwrote your main hard-drive trying to write to your USB Flash Drive. The dd command should not be taken lightly... What you did is a bit bit like saying (as root) "rm -f /".... |
It is so easy to hit enter without thinking. In our case we actually had to use 'sudo' so we had a second chance to look at the command.
Garbage In - Garbage Out! |

Garbage In - Garbage Out!
But... If you care about the Garbage Out, might you care about the input not being Garbage? Just asking.... |
Probably ten years ago this would have really upset us but we are much mellower now.
We are using the live CD image that we booted into right now! With great power comes great responsibility! After almost 17 years of using Linux and almost 30 years of using computers in general we figure we have made most every mistake possible. We have been bit by "dd" before, so we have no excuse. They say there are three signs of old age: One: Apathy. Two: Forgetfulness. We cannot remember number three, but we don't give a damn! |

That's what tweezers are for. |

I have plenty of hair on my head. It's the tufts in the ear openings and the long, fine hairs around the ear edges that make me feel my age. |
