It's depressing that we need to install dashcams and buy collision and un/underinsured insurance just for people that have no sense of responsibility - hit and run/no insurance/not enough insurance.

Most people don't shovel snow/ice off the top of their cars and drive on 70mph+ highways. If one fall on you, you're in trouble. That's why a hd dashcam would be helpful.

I still pedal to work each day; my high heart rate when I ride is probably not due to the exercise, but to the stress from cars. Have thought often about a GoPro camera, mainly so the police and my family know who to blame for my demise, but I can't decide if it should be pointed forward to record the cars pulling out in front of me or pointed behind me, to record the ones that will run up on me from behind. I'd rather not have multiple cameras mounted on my helmet. Too much wind resistance.

So you could have both a front camera on your helmet and a rear camera with your light. I don't use either so I can't say if they work well or not. But what about the side? I'll ramp that back up slowly as things heal up more.

Nighttime power outage
 

We had a countywide power outage last night for a little over an hour. They said it was some sort of problem with a major substation.

My UPS ran the computer for less than the outage length, so the system stopped ungracefully. I was concerned (maybe for no reason) that the LL DC in progress might have been affected. I deleted several backup files and restarted from a point before the outage.

I ordered an inexpensive little power fault alarm which is a cube that plugs into a wall outlet and sounds an alarm if power is interrupted (it also has a little led light that gives some visibility at night). I will connect this in the hall outside the bedroom so I can get up and shut the system down gracefully if necessary the next time this happens.

The UPS has an audible alarm but it was too far away for me to hear.

Please share a link to that alarm. That is a real geat idea!

Does your UPS have a USB or serial port that will carry a signal to your machine to gracefully shut dow? I know the 2 most common brands, APC and [STRIKE]Cyberdyne[/STRIKE] err Cyberpower have that feature.
