That's way beyond "rude." In theory, the driver could be charged with hit-and-run, possibly in felony territory. In theory, you could sue.
In practice, of course, without a license plate number or other way to ID the vehicle (and the driver), legally you're up a stump; and, even if you had the goods, without serious damage either to the bike or yourself, getting involved in the legal system is probably not worth the hassle anyway. One piece of advice: If you haven't had a tetanus shot within the last 10 years, get one. Hope you heal up quickly!
People that do hit and run are either drunk or had no insurance. It's depressing that we need to install dashcams and buy collision and un/underinsured insurance just for people that have no sense of responsibility - hit and run/no insurance/not enough insurance. Most people don't shovel snow/ice off the top of their cars and drive on 70mph+ highways. If one fall on you, you're in trouble. That's why a hd dashcam would be helpful. |

One of the popular videos shared on social media showing a car intentionally harassing (in a manner that constitutes assault with a deadly weapon) was filmed on a stretch of highway that I frequent several times a month.

And for those of you who want documentation of other kinds of interpersonal interactions which sometimes go wrong, causing injury and occasionally even death or, um, dismemberment: This GoPro for Your Dick Is Ridiculous | Motherboard This lends a whole new meaning to “4x zoom”. |
Get well soon. I used to bike to work (pedal). I had a few cases of hit and run. None life threatening though.
I still pedal to work each day; my high heart rate when I ride is probably not due to the exercise, but to the stress from cars. Have thought often about a GoPro camera, mainly so the police and my family know who to blame for my demise, but I can't decide if it should be pointed forward to record the cars pulling out in front of me or pointed behind me, to record the ones that will run up on me from behind. I'd rather not have multiple cameras mounted on my helmet. Too much wind resistance. Yes- Get well soon, Retina. Hopefully the mental injury was less than the physical injury. I suspect I won't ever get back on a bike after I take a hit. Norm |

So you could have both a front camera on your helmet and a rear camera with your light. I don't use either so I can't say if they work well or not. But what about the side? You could still get hit while crossing an intersection.
Yes- Get well soon, Retina. Hopefully the mental injury was less than the physical injury. I'll ramp that back up slowly as things heal up more.

only 50km/day ? ONLY ? Good to hear you're doing better and back in the saddle ! ( Did you really say that you don't ride with a helmet ? ) |
only 50km/day ? ONLY ?
 Yeah. I'm still sore in many places, so I have to take it easy. Two hours is my limit at the moment.
Good to hear you're doing better and back in the saddle !

Nighttime power outage
We had a countywide power outage last night for a little over an hour. They said it was some sort of problem with a major substation.
My UPS ran the computer for less than the outage length, so the system stopped ungracefully. I was concerned (maybe for no reason) that the LL DC in progress might have been affected. I deleted several backup files and restarted from a point before the outage. I ordered an inexpensive little power fault alarm which is a cube that plugs into a wall outlet and sounds an alarm if power is interrupted (it also has a little led light that gives some visibility at night). I will connect this in the hall outside the bedroom so I can get up and shut the system down gracefully if necessary the next time this happens. The UPS has an audible alarm but it was too far away for me to hear. |
Please share a link to that alarm. That is a real geat idea!

I know the 2 most common brands, APC and [STRIKE]Cyberdyne[/STRIKE] err Cyberpower have that feature. |
