With this speed I think that my 100-prime-this-year is plausible :) As for the new range, I still have about 40M unsent.
With more and more joining, I think we all should maybe aim for the 250 primes found by primegrid, just this year, it will be an average of 7-8 primes a day. 19 users crunching, should be capeable of yielding at least 4 primes, so if we just double the amount of users, I think even 250 is plausible, but let's all wait and see what the year brings when it comes to an end :) I've noticed, that you've implemented the double credit amount, when one finds a prime, such as each individual now is granted credit for each prime test they does, where a - and a + is counted as seperate tests :) Otherwise, keep up the good spirit people, and remember to crunch like you've never crunched before :) Btw does anyone know how to disable windows error messages, such as one want be told that LLR has experienced an error, would you like to send dumprep.exe to Microsoft for further analysation. Someone suggested that I did so in another thread, but never told me how to do so, and I can't find anything in the users guide following with the windows XP operation system, so any advice is very welcome :) Last but not least, I've following suggestions for the future, and I think that they maybe should be considered already now, such as proper sieving can be done, (and also a lot of work be created). As it turns out, it was easier for me to upload the txt file rather than trying to make my suggestions readable in this forum :) So please take a look and let me know what you feel. --> Any comments on the suggestions are very welcome :) Regards!
With more and more joining, I think we all should maybe aim for the 250 primes found by primegrid, just this year, it will be an average of 7-8 primes a day.
When will the rest of primegrid join in?

It's 19 users that found a prime. There are more users crunching (i for one haven't found my prime yet, but i am (slowly) crunching).
Btw does anyone know how to disable windows error messages
I do. I don't have an XP machine around here. On windows 2003 you'll right click "My Computer\properties", go to the "Advanced" tab end click "Error reporting". On XP it should be simmilar.
Last but not least, I've following suggestions for the future, and I think that they maybe should be considered already now, such as proper sieving can be done, (and also a lot of work be created).
I like the n=333333 that biwema suggested and started sieving on. |
I think that we must decide the nex exponent that we'll use after 195000.
Such way some people can begin to sieve it. I think we must choose something around 332190, as it has been suggested. moooomoo can you start a poll on the next exponent? We must decide also how to sieve next exponent , (to distribute the sieving or not ?) Rytis, when do you think that primegrid can distribute LLR test to all users ? Primegrid will run primegen and LLR at the same time or do you think that LLR will become the only application (such a way we 'll have much more processing power)? |
I vote for LLR only
Reason: the more power we can harness to help solve the TWIPS asap. And the hunt for the factors of rsa704 will take too long Regards C. |
The app still has too many problems, it can't be given to public. The problems include:
* sometimes not suspending app when suspending on BOINC/exiting/switching to other project (most people on BOINC are multiproject); * wrapper crashes leaving LLR in memory (sometimes being suspended) * llr window pops up during computation. When closed, it trashes all workunits in the queue. * not honouring CPU throttle settings (because of suspend bug) * probably more :) Besides, the current server would not be able to handle the amount of short workunits (we will probably launch an updated donation page tomorrow, we'll need your help to raise the money). We have agreed with Willy from BOINCstats that when new server is ready PG will get a separate one with an additional server available about 50% of the time for background jobs. |
And the hunt for the factors of rsa704 will take too long
Thats an understatement. The factors won't be found in your lifetime by this search

Besides, the current server would not be able to handle the amount of short workunits
Why not make 1 WU consist of several (10?)tests.
|
Because it runs quite unstable as of yet, and crash in the tenth test would mean waste of computing power for the first 9. And we only need to push through 195000, and workunits will be longer ;)

Thanks smh, error reporting is disabled :), might ensure me not loosing precious computer time :) I think Rytis has answered your question, and the PrimeGrid community will join in, when the LLR client becomes more stable. I'm not sure how many is crunching, maybe Rytis knows, I'm just pushing because of interest and not because I have anything specific to do with the project on programming side or server side, in plain talking I'm just a simple user with a huge mathematic interest in prime numbers :)
Regards! Ps. Please remember to vote, I voted the 300,000-350,000 n :) |
Ps. Please remember to vote, I voted the 300,000-350,000 n :)
Me too, i still like n=333333 as it's just over 100K digits
