1234567889 isn't prime.
M1234567891 has a factor: 391113896243211827364532113
1234567891 is prime, but that number is not of the correct form (2*k*p + 1) to be a factor of M1234567891 |
You hack the net backbone so that every 1K of traffic does 1 byte of calculation toward the first Billion digit prime.

Well radios can certainly do some (although they are VERY slow) TF-ing - in Britain, we have radio stations with a [strike]speed[/strike] frequency of around 100MHz.

You cry:cry:a little each day that you don't find a factor. And it gets worse the longer you go.

You check every 5-10 minutes to see if the PrimeNet server is back online again during server maintenance.
...you buy an iPhone so that you can browse the web without stealing cycles from your computers.
...you then realize that you might be able to port Prime95 to the iPhone and become obsessed with making it run Prime95 at as good a speed is possible on its hardware. ...then you overclock the iPhone.
... and you don“t make phone calls at all, to avoid stealing cycles from P95. |
Of course, nobody who is really addicted would waste cycles by posting in this thread.

You just might be addicted to GIMPS if... ...if you keep a full copy of the GIMPS DB to make sure you'll never run out of assignments if the server goes down. |
You buy a plane and put your PC on it, permanently flying around because you heard that time goes quicker.
