you build a computer whose purpose is solely for GIMPS.
speaking of which, what would such a computer be like? (i.e. perhaps large FPU units (WITH DOUBLE PRECISION :D), a "prime95 OS" :D, very good cooling, Lx caches designed to have just enough capacity to a certain FFT length?) |
... you save up 10,000 LL test results, and then report them all on the same day to inflate your "CPU results in last 24 hours" chart.
You win the lottery and you purchase all of the computers that found the recent primes. Then you set up a road-side prime museum. It includes: posters of all of the m-primes for sale, banners on the walls of them in 4-point type, Mersenne's death mask, a lock of George's hair, and other wonders. Later you hire Paul to work as a docent.
G
Gordon Spence, I presume? Welcome to the forum. |
I think Gordon Spence's username is "nitro" (unless he created a second account).

For reasons that are not important in this thread GIMPS reports your new Quad in your CPU Report three times ... and for a second you start to drool.

HOT DAMN.. that's me.. I've actually got a stack of equipment (got it 4 cheap at some liquidation sale) and I'm running less than half of it because it heats enough. |
... you put in an advance order for the Pool PC (http://home.howstuffworks.com/10-wacky-home-inventions9.htm) so you can take advantage of its watercooling to overclock it.
In fact water-powered computers (if not water cooled) have been around since 1973 - see http://catb.org/jargon/html/lexicon.html especially http://catb.org/jargon/html/G/glitch.html#crunchly73-06-04 onwards Gary |
... you browse mersenneforum during your honeymoon.
or better yet ... you refuse to go on a honeymoon because it would interrupt your browsing. |
