After participating in Operation: Billion Digits, you become dissatisfied. Consequently, you start up a new project- Operation: Teradigit Prime! |
To start off, you hack into the Earth Simulator and use it to LL test M(3,321,928,094,941), the first trillion-digit Mersenne number (1,000,000,000,017 digits!).
By the way, does anyone care to estimate how long that test would take using the Earth Simulator at full power? |

You actually Trial Factor M(3,321,928,094,941) to 72 bits on your work P3 because it was posted to a forum. Guilty  No factors found. |

Guilty  No factors found.
...you are seriously thinking of starting a NEW Trillion Digits Project "as soon as the Billion Digits Project is acknowledged as the most whimsical distributed project in the world"... |

Guilty  No factors found.
Really? Current computers are powerful enough to factor trillion digit Mersenne numbers?! And does anyone still want to estimate how long an LL test would take on that number using the Earth Simulator? |
You can't wait for IBM to finish building the Blue Gene series supercomputers. (So you could hack into them.)
|
For some odd, inexplicable reason, the international man vs. machine chess championship is interrupted when the computers suddenly stop what they are doing and start searching for Mersenne primes!
|
... you start a new DC project to try and factor not MM127, but MMM127!
|
...you're working on someone else's computer, look at the Task Manager, and see that the CPU is at 100% utilization. Your first thought it that this is perfectly normal, but then you realize that the computer is not running Prime95.
|
You write your own software to manage your own GIMPS related work.
You make charts and graphs to show progress. You  when you realize that you are now in the top 1000 of credit in PrimeNet (L-L and Factoring) and GIMPS. :geek: :geek: |
