Aren't you talking about me? :innocent:  |
This has nothing to do with Mersenne primes, but...
The musical term "fermata" reminds you of Fermat numbers. -- guilty -- |
... After finding out that the EFF is also offering a $150,000 reward for the first 100,000,000+ digit prime, you vow to start an LL test on the exponent 332,192,831. You are disappointed to find that Prime95 cannot handle an exponent this size. So instead, you buy a copy of Mathematica 5, input 4, then order Mathematica to square and subtract 2 modulo (2^332192831)-1, iterating 332192831 times. You are undaunted when Mathematica still hasn't finished the calculation, 5 years later.

You know your addicted when you have to rewire the "computer room" in your new place to add more circuits to handle the "farm".
(Which I'm in the process of doing....) |
You know you're addicted when you have a "computer room" at home. This is even more significant if you also no longer have a "bedroom"!

...if you have both a computer room and a bedroom, but you keep on sleeping in the first... (guilty) |
Upon winning the lottery/Publisher's Clearing House/etc. you first go and up front by a bunch of new comps before getting the money in hand.
|
You dream that your apartment was broken into and the first thing you do upon waking up is to check and see if your farm is still there.
|
You are so addicted to P-1 tests that your newest boxen has a gig of RAM to allow as much stage 2 testing as possible.
If the fastest computer that is now in your house doesn't even have a keyboard or mouse because all you want a fast P4 for is to run Prime95. You are quite happy using a slow computer for all of your computer needs as to not waste any CPU cycles on your fastest computer. (Both of which I am now guilty of) As a side note, has anyone thought of what their life might be like if they hadn't stumbled along GIMPS. What would we do with all the extra time and money??? |
